Global Compliance and Data Privacy Attorney

Overview:
HarperCollins Publishers is seeking a Global Compliance and Data Privacy Attorney, reporting directly to HC’s General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer, who will oversee the compliance and data privacy programs at HC globally. This person will work with senior management and legal counsel at each of the HC offices worldwide and will ensure that policies and processes are consistently implemented at each of the HC offices. This person will also work collaboratively with the News Corp Compliance Team. Responsibilities: - Establishes a clear structure of accountability for the compliance and data privacy programs at HC, with reporting back to parent News Corp.
- Designs and prepares policies and processes for HC globally and/or at an office level.
- Manages policy and procedure reviews and enhancements.
- Assists with News Corp global compliance and data privacy training content, as well as conducts HC-specific trainings, as appropriate.
- Designs due diligence processes with respect to third party vendors and potential acquisitions.
- Implements the News Corp Investigations and Remediations Protocol.
- Ensures that risk assessments are conducted with regard to specific risks, including, e.g., sanctions, modern slavery and anti-bribery.
- Implements relevant data privacy requirements and related procedures.
- Manages potential data breaches.
- Identifies potential areas of compliance and privacy risks and anticipates legal and regulatory changes.
- Designs, implements, and documents an effective monitoring plan.
Qualifications: - Attorney with seven (7) plus years of relevant experience in compliance, data privacy, or related areas
- Substantive knowledge and experience with US, Canadian, and European/UK data privacy and protection laws
- Publishing experience is preferred, but not required.
- Excellent legal and business judgment with sound analytical skills
- Management and problem-solving skills
- Ability to travel and work in multiple time zones
This role is currently based out of New York, NY. You will need to commute to the office when it reopens.
