ESP is currently seeking a Geotechnical and CMT Lab Coordinator / Project Manager for our Fort Mill, South Carolina operations. This role offers a Geotechnical/CMT professional the opportunity to work with clients, manage projects and coordinate operations in our AASHTO accredited soils and materials laboratory.
Responsibilities:
- Client Interaction & Project Management Duties Including:
- Proposal preparation
- Managing and/or performing field engineering and testing
- Technical analyses
- Providing consultation/evaluation for field-related concerns
- Report writing
- Invoice Preparation
- Laboratory Coordination and Oversight Including:
- Management of AASHTO Quality System
- Maintaining AASHTO Resource, CCRL and DOT accreditation
- Reviewing laboratory data for internal QA/QC
- Providing guidance and implementation during revision to or addition of new laboratory processes, procedures, or test methods
- Coordinating and scheduling laboratory testing assignments
- Coordinating timely calibrations and maintenance of field and laboratory equipment to industry codes and standards
- Communicating field and laboratory observations and testing results with Project Management staff, general contractors, and clients
- Assisting Project Management staff with review of laboratory testing results and preparation of formal reports
- Business planning related to expenses and capital expenditures
Technical Abilities in Some or All of the Following:
- Shallow and deep foundation analysis
- Pavement design and analysis
- Construction materials testing (CMT) procedures
- Special inspection procedures and requirements
- Analysis of laboratory test results including, but not limited to: Moisture-density relationships, Atterberg Limits, Grainsize analysis, Triaxial compression testing, consolidation testing, Hydraulic Conductivity, loss on ignition, etc.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors or Master’s degree in related discipline
- 2 or more years of related experience (laboratory, geotechnical and construction materials testing)
- Engineering Intern (EI) registration is required
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration beneficial
- Familiarity with ASTM and AASHTO test methods specific to geotechnical and construction materials testing
- Familiarity with AASHTO R18 Quality Management System (or comparable quality management system)
- Strong written/verbal communication skills
- Familiarity with processing and reporting geotechnical and construction materials test results using specialized computer software preferred
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and ability to utilize and manage Lab Information Management System software
- Familiarity with geotechnical and material testing equipment and calibration procedures
- Familiarity with automated testing, data acquisition and instrumentation preferred
- Must have good verbal and written communication skills
- Candidate must be able to pass a drug screen, background check, and have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the company’s driving (MVR) policy.
