POSITION SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Food Services Manager and guidance from the Dietitian, the Cook is responsible for guaranteeing appealing, nutritious and high-quality meals and snacks. Also ensures that preparation and serving activities are performed in accordance with food service policies, sanitary guidelines and good sensitivity/allergy requirements.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plans and prepares foods in accordance with facility policies, approved dietary guidelines and recipes/menus provided by FMG.
  • Safe food storage and preparation i.e. maintains accurate temperature logs, in range hot/cold storage, prompt freezer/refrigeration, stock rotation, labeling/dating food items and discarding out-of-date food.
  • Continuous policy/practice awareness and safeguards against the introduction of food allergens or restrictions.
  • Food is presented in an appealing fashion. Takes recommended measures to prepare food to preserve nutritional benefits.
  • Applies culinary and cooking techniques needed for special and/or restrictive dietary requirements.
  • Work habits are supportive of high scores on health department inspections of the kitchen. Hand hygiene, hairnet and other dress is clean and neat in appearance.
  • Works cooperatively with others. All interactions are consistent with high customer service standards.
  • Participates in staff meetings and continuing training opportunities.

Customer Service

  • Champions the AIDET approach to customer service (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation and Thank-You). Models a steady practice of AIDET throughout the customer experience. In-person and telephone communication is consistently attentive, responsive and reflects helpfulness.
  • Conducts satisfaction surveys with referral sources on a routine basis to ensure superior customer service.
  • Professional awareness and boundaries are observed.
  • Telephones are answered by the third ring whenever possible along with a professional greeting. Dedicated extensions/mobile phones with voice mail have a personalized greeting and messages retrieved/responded to in a timely manner.
  • Critical customer encounters are met with advanced skills and timely resolution. Understands how to escalate concerns when beyond the departments scope.

Education / Licensure

High school diploma or GED equivalent is desirable. Participation and passing the food handlers certification program (ServSafe) is highly desirable. Additional training in the culinary arts and/or hospital food services is complimentary to this position.

Must possess good interpersonal skills and a strong customer service orientation.
