Administrative Assistant
Forestry and UW Extension Departments
The purpose of this position is to provide clerical support services to the Forestry Department staff to carry out the responsibilities of Chapter 28.11 of the Wisconsin State Statutes and to provide support services to the professional staff of the UW Extension Department as established under 59.56(3) of the Wisconsin statutes.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This position provides administrative assistance to office activities, performing a variety of receptionist, secretarial, clerical and bookkeeping duties to both the Forestry and UW Extension Departments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
General clerical duties to include photocopying, reception, filing and typing; Processes payments and tracks vouchers, receipts, and expenses in the county ledger system; Arranges, books, and prepares facilities for meetings and programs including Zoom meetings online, teleconferences, satellite programs, and programmatic meetings; Provides front line contact with the program contacts, organizations, loggers, forest user groups, vendors, County Board and Forestry Committee members, DNR and other Forestry agencies, and the general public; Summarizes bid data for timber sales for presentation to Forestry Committee; Uses desktop publishing software to prepare newsletters, publications, displays and program information; Maintains, updates, and enters data in timber sale files, mailing lists, 4-H Registration and enrollment, Civil Rights documentation and compliance and assigned fair enrollment data; Processes Sawyer County forestry permits, including firewood permits; Maintains inventories and related records and/or reports, and orders supplies; Assists with the preparation and on-going monitoring of departmental budgets; Assists with grant management and recreational trail paperwork; Assists with maintenance of county parks.; Develops and recommends policies and procedures to improve administrative or operating effectiveness; Attends meetings, workshops and trainings as needed to keep skills current.; Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Educational Requirements:
High school graduate with business, office management, and secretarial courses. Associates degree preferred. Two years" experience working in a business office.
Competitive wage and benefit package includes health insurance, Wisconsin retirement pension fund, life insurance, sick and vacation leave, and holiday pay. This position is scheduled for 40 hours per week and the beginning wage is $17.55 per hour.
