Job Summary: The Food Safety/Product Evaluation position is responsible for implementing, auditing, and reviewing the food safety strategy according to Modern Distributors HACCP (FSP) plan as well as owning procedures related to federal/state requirements. This role is a leader for the food safety initiatives company wide. They will support and guide all company production to ensure that food safety and quality standards are met. Main Responsibilities The Food Safety Specialist (FSS) has a responsibility to training employees as well as planning, assigning, and directing work that pertains to food safety. The FSS also addresses complaints and resolves problems relating to food safety. Education and/or Experience Preferred bachelor's degree in food science, microbiology, biology, occupational safety or related safety fields. Experience with a focus on HACCP/Food Safety in food manufacturing is a plus. Language Skills Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries, regulatory agencies, or ability to effectively present information to top management and/or boards of directors. Computer Skills To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software, Spreadsheet software and Microsoft Office Word Processing software. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Preferred candidates hold certifications as a PCQI (Preventative Controls Qualified Individual). If the candidate does not have this certification and is offered the job, they will be required to attend a PCQI course for certification. Other Skills and Abilities Must have excellent communication skills. Must be able to work well with others and teach and explain as it relates to food safety. It is also essential that this role maintains a clear understanding of FDA, USDA, and any applicable OSHA regulations.
