The Division of Community and Public Health Newborn Hearing Screening Program exists to assure all babies born in Missouri receive a hearing screen and follow-up as early as possible. This is an opportunity to impact the lives of infants who are deaf or hard-of-hearing (D/HH). The Follow-up Coordinator collaborates with early hearing detection and intervention professionals and stakeholders throughout the state to ensure families of babies and children who are D/HH receive appropriate and timely hearing screening, diagnosis, early intervention, and family to family support.


What you’ll do:

  • Review cases for screening/diagnostic results and risk factors for late-onset or progressive hearing loss.
  • Provide coordination of care to meet each family’s individual case management needs.
  • Contact, by letters and/or phone, the parents/guardians and primary care providers (PCP) of infants who miss or do not pass the hearing screening and provide appropriate follow-up education.
  • Provide educational and community-outreach activities to promote awareness of the importance of early hearing detection and intervention (EHDI).
  • Promote the Missouri EHDI process to area PCPs through education and outreach activities.
  • Review surveillance data, conduct special studies, and conduct research necessary for the planning and evaluation of the Newborn Hearing Screening Program.
  • Assist with the development of contracts and grants.

All you need for success:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse and 0-3 years of experience as a registered nurse.
  • Ability to build rapport with families and providers.
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and communicate medical terminology and effectively communicate that information to families, healthcare providers, and the public.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects/tasks independently, exercise significant initiative, and adhere to timelines and guidelines.
