The Financial Analyst is responsible for leading the analysis and interpretation of financial data in order to assist with financial and operational decision making.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (*Essential Duties)

  • Assist with interpreting the quarterly financial results through commentary and charts that bring insightful analysis to senior management and to The Board of Governors.*
  • Create and build management reports, which include, but are not limited to quarterly budget/actual analyses, departmental success measures dashboards, cash and investment reporting and ad-hoc financial analyses to support decisions that require CFO approval.*
  • Preparation of Finance Committee and Board presentations.*Work closely with Investment advisor on USO Foundation business related to reporting and results of investment managers.*
  • Create forecasts, income statements, balance sheets, and statements of cash flow. Lead development of a multi-year financial outlook. Evaluate capital expenditure decisions.
  • Perform analysis of direct mail and other Development strategies, campaign set-up, key metrics and results.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Specifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting/Finance or related field. MBA preferred.
  • 2+ years progressively responsible work experience in a financial analysis role. Relevant experience in a not-for-profit, military, multicultural and/or global organization preferred.
  • In-depth understanding of and ability to evaluate capital expenditure decisions, create income statements, balance sheets and statements of cash flow. Proficient at creating and managing corporate budgets as well as multi-year cash and profit/loss outlook models. General understanding of effective fundraising strategies.
  • Strong interpersonal, customer service and problem-solving skills. Ability to interact with USO Leadership, the general public and military audiences at a variety of levels with integrity and professionalism. Ability to manage and influence external vendor relationships.
  • Proficiency using computers and electronics equipment. General knowledge of various software, applications, and programs including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite. Demonstrated expertise in advanced uses of Excel formatting and functions, especially charts and graphs.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment related to controversial and/or culturally sensitive subjects. Ability to handle confidential information with tact and poise.
  • Must show initiative, self-motivation, and attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple projects with competing priorities. Ability to quickly and easily adapt to changing organizational needs.
  • Ability to achieve desired results while working collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to perform basic business/accounting functions including project management and budget reconciliation.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain proper credentials necessary to access USO Center locations and facilities including but not limited to security, credit and/or background screening, SOFA status, valid driver’s license.

  • This position is located in Arlington, VA. Preference will be given to local candidates within commuting distance to the location. Remote working arrangements may be considered for highly qualified candidates
