The KIPP Foundation trains and develops outstanding educators to lead KIPP public schools; provides tools, resources and training for excellent teaching and learning; promotes innovation; and facilitates the exchange of insights and ideas across KIPP and other public schools and organizations.

Position Overview

The Financial Analyst is an integral part of the Finance Team at the KIPP Foundation. The primary responsibility of this role is supporting the KIPP Foundation’s long-term financial planning, annual budgeting, monthly forecasting, and financial reporting processes. Together with the Sr. Manager, FP&A, the Financial Analyst is also responsible for managing the KIPP Foundation’s FP&A system (currently Workday’s Adaptive Insights), training budget managers, ad-hoc financial analysis, and supporting other Finance Team functions (monthly close, annual audit, etc.).

The Financial Analyst reports to the Sr. Manager, FP&A. This role is on the Finance Team and works collaboratively with all teams across the KIPP Foundation.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Lead financial reporting processes including financial reporting and dashboards for executive management, and budget to actual (variance analysis) reporting for budget managers

  • Support the Sr. Manager, FP&A with long-term (3 to 5 year) financial planning, annual budgeting, and monthly forecasting

  • Partner with budget managers and other teams to accurately plan and forecast expense including personnel (headcount), operating expense, capital expense, and grants to KIPP regions

  • Provide insightful recommendations and guidance to the Sr. Manager, FP&A based on financial results, trends, and analysis

  • Schedule and lead monthly financial review meetings with budget managers

  • Together, with the Sr. Manager, FP&A, manage the KIPP Foundation’s Adaptive Insights instance, which includes but is not limited to:

    • Managing user access

    • Managing connections to other accounting and finance systems

    • Creating and distributing financial reports and dashboards

    • Managing multiple forecast and budget versions

    • Maintaining and/or enhancing current structure (accounts, dimensions, sheets, assumptions, formulas, and reports)

    • Troubleshooting formulas, data inputs, and assumptions as necessary

    • Researching, proposing, and managing system updates and improvements as necessary

    • Aligning financial system structure to internal organizational structure

    • Performing ad-hoc analyses and addressing strategic questions based on system data

  • Create and maintain standard operating procedures for all FP&A processes

  • Support other finance functions and projects including but not limited to month-end close, revenue planning/forecasting, grants management/reporting, annual audit, and timecard management

Experience and Qualifications

  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration, strongly preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, required
  • Demonstrated experience in financial budgeting, forecasting and analysis; as well as building and managing financial models, required
  • Demonstrated experience creating, managing and interpreting financial statements and reports, required
  • Demonstrated ability and success in managing ambiguity
  • Demonstrated ability and success in juggling multiple projects and competing priorities
  • Demonstrated experience and success with implementing and managing Workday’s Adaptive Insights, strongly preferred
  • Experience with non-profit organizations, strongly preferred
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills, specifically Microsoft Excel, required
  • Passion for KIPP’s mission and values
  • Travel requirements: Very minimal (depending on location; 2 to 4 trips per year)
  • Exemption status: Full-time, exempt
