Job Description
Second Stage seeks an experienced Finance Director to join its team to oversee the day-to-day financial operations and serve as the senior financial strategist of the theater organization. This position is responsible for managing all accounting and banking functions while ensuring legal and regulatory compliance. Reporting to the Executive Director, they will work closely with other members of the Senior Leadership Team to generate and track budgets for both internal and external reporting. The Finance Director leads a team of four finance staff, including controller, administrative manager, and finance management associates. The Finance Department has recently converted to NetSuite Accounting software; this position requires strong organizational and operational skills to streamline and support implementation of new systems.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Execute the successful financial management of the theater, including forecasting and analysis of finances
- Oversee finance team (controller, administrative manager, finance management associates)
- Manage the overall accounting, bookkeeping, and budget management for the organization, including accounts payable and receivable, billing, disbursements, inventory and capital assets, banking, and payroll functions
- Coordinate with development management and staff on all initiatives, including but not limited to monitoring all grant budgets and grant-related information, insure that all processing and tracking of all forms of donations are accurate, tracking use of restricted funds, producing revenue reports, and processing from fundraising events
- Oversee the preparation of materials for the annual audit and coordinate with external auditors as well as oversee Form 990 and state reporting
- Prepare comprehensive budgets and coordinate with Executive Leadership to facilitate annual budget process
- Monitor progress of budgetary goals and provide monthly and quarterly financial reporting and analysis of financial statements, including statement of activities, fund balance, and sources/uses of funds, to the Executive Leadership and the Board of Trustees
- Approve or delegate approval of all routine monetary expenditures up to a limit designated by the Board of Trustees
- Negotiate and approve all non-artistic contracts and leases
- Responsible for the financial activity of additional Subsidiaries for Rental Activity and Tax Credit Activity.
- Responsible for weekly reconciliation and settlements for Rental Activity in the Hayes Theatre.
- Manage vendor relationships along with all department heads
- Ensure compliance with development management and staff with all sources of funding, including, but not limited to public funding grants, and all regulatory requirements
- Manage, along with production department, all rights and licensing income from current and post productions
- Keep up-to-date on information and technology affecting functional area(s) to increase innovation and ensure compliance
- Other duties, as assigned
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration
- CPA designation preferred
- Proven track record of successful financial management in fast-paced environment
- A comprehensive understanding of non-profit finance with preference given to those with performing arts experience
- At least 7 years of proven track record managing complex non-profit budgets
- Experience processing Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable Payable functions
- Experience with accounting software, such as NetSuite, Tessitura or similar systems
- Demonstrated proficiency in Excel
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail required

Additional Information
Compensation: Base salary starting at $140,000 annually
