Field Claims Specialist (SD.)
American National is seeking a full-time team member, to manage property claims and occasional large loss fires (Personal lines primarily, with exposure and/or willingness to learn commercial and agriculture lines of business) with preferred residence in the Sioux Falls, South Dakota area(s).

How you will make an impact
- Responsible for the operation of the independent field office within specified territory (Full life cycle property claims handling, including field inspections, and occasional management of large losses)
- Territory areas and/or mileage radius: Standard field travel may involve up to two (2) hour travel time one way and overnight stays – Large losses could require travel up to six (6) hours away from primary territory
- Review facts of loss and determine details of coverage
- Determine investigative needs to assess damages, cause of loss, and coverage
- Order police reports, fire reports, determine scope of coverage, and document claim files with the results of review and intention
- Contact applicable parties, obtain recorded statements, explain the claim process, review coverage, investigate, and identify special investigation unit (fraudulent) indicators
- Communicate, explain, and prepare estimates with detailed diagrams, reports, and estimates
- Conduct field investigations, unless independent adjuster assignment is deemed to be in the best interest of the client and company
- Negotiate with insureds, contractors, and vendors
- Assess salvage/subrogation potential and monitor to conclusion
- Complete risk evaluations for both underwriting and claims
- Maintain and promote ongoing contact with claimants, agents, attorneys, and internal clients regarding the status of claim files
- Conclude claims in compliance with all state rules and regulations
- Assist with claims handling in catastrophe (CAT) events which may include extended travel/overnight stays, when applicable (CAT team will deploy first, field adjusters secondary, with notice)
Minimum Qualifications
- Four (4) year completed degree in related field or applicable work experience
- Claims handing experience
- Currently hold an active (Texas) adjuster license or have interest in obtaining following date of hire
- (American National will incur fees associated / No out of pocket expenses)
- Ability to travel: This will include managing catastrophe (CAT) duties when applicable
- Being physically capable to perform field assessments and evaluations (Climbing ladders/roofs and maneuvering within tight spaces)
- Successfully pass a motor vehicle check and possess an active driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications:
- Five (5) years property (Home, buildings, wind, fire, hail) field claims work experience
- Xactimate or alike estimating program knowledge
- Industry designations/certifications
- Ability to effectively manage assigned territory
- Ability to work independently, successfully
- Remote work experience, with the ability to demonstrate effective performance
- An operative and organized multi-tasker, with the ability to focus when items require your undivided attention for review, as you will be tasked with managing your day to day work schedule and goals
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable managing difficult conversations with ease and confidence
- Strong negotiation skills
- Aptitude to navigate various computer programs simultaneously, on dual monitors (Using Microsoft Office applications and internal systems)
- High attention to detail and thorough follow-up
- Passion to provide the highest quality of customer service
