The primary responsibilities of the Fiber Optic Splicer will be to splice fiber optic cables in both outdoor and indoor settings, read, create and maintain splicing schematics and diagrams, maintain control of outside plant activities surrounding the assigned work site, taking and maintaining accurate splicing and field notes, support project timelines, inspecting, and providing accurate project notes. This position requires field work which may include overtime, weekends, holidays, and off hours.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Splice fiber optic cables including both loose tube and ribbon cables. Construct a proper splice case, including but not limited to: grounding, bonding, slack storage and sealing.
  • Prepare and maintain splicing records, schematics and diagrams.
  • Perform work in accordance with industry standards. Be familiar with company standards, read and follow design engineers’ instructions and specifications, maintain the scope of work on the project and adhere to all safety procedures.
  • Enter and maintain outside plant records.
  • Participate in engineering, permit and construction processes to support project.
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail and make good sound decisions based on information given.
  • Ability to multitask and stay organized under pressure.
  • Reconcile all issued parts and materials on a daily basis to ensure accurate material usage counts.
  • Safely operate and use bucket truck to complete daily construction assignments as needed.
  • Basic daily maintenance of provided vehicle: check fluids, clean and organize vehicle.
  • Frequently work independently.

  • Ability to understand construction prints and splice schematics.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for learning from senior team members.
  • General knowledge of fiber optic theory coupled with hands on experience.
  • Ability to thrive in a team environment

  • Clean driver license

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in Outside Plant Fiber Optic Fusion Splicing and Testing
  • Experience with various cable types and enclosures required.
