SUMMARY:
As a member of the Network Operations Department, the Fiber Network Technician will be responsible for the routine maintenance and testing for the Fiber Network Alarm Center and the Fiber Optic Terminal equipment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for Fiber Network Alarm Center testing and maintenance.
- Routine maintenance on Fiber Optic Terminal Equipment Sonet, M13 Multiplexers and DAC s
- Strong knowledge of GigE and 10 Gig Transport, IP sub-netting and VLan routing.
- Turn-up and testing of EtherNet, DS1, DS3 and all types of Sonet circuits.
- Strong knowledge of DWDM equipment and architecture is required.
- Installation of all types of Sonet, DWDM and EtherNet Equipment.
- Knowledge of Metasolv and FiberWorks records systems required.
- Individuals will be on-call 24 hours a day, 5 days a week with alternating weekends and holidays.
- Some overtime is required.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:
Required
- Two year technical degree; or
- Five years technical, military training or telephone experience
- Installation of Fiber Optics, optical equipment and outside plant maintenance experience.

TOOLS, EQUIPMENT, AND SOFTWARE:
- Demonstrated knowledge of personal computer applications Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Outlook
- Knowledge of Unix
