Serve as a student research assistant on the Project: Impact of masking on perceptions of appearance and attitudes toward service. The study involves an experiment in which we evaluate consumer responses to people in various service situations. Individuals will be photographed with and without masks and experimental and control groups will be exposed to these individuals in mock service encounters. We will measure attitudes toward the encounter, attractiveness perceptions, and the influence on purchase intent.
Position DutiesThe undergraduate research assistant will conduct a literature review on services marketing and attractiveness. The research assistant will identify and research various service encounters and identify 3. The research assistant will identify participants in the study who will consent to be photographed and will take all the photographs with masks and unmasked. The research assistant will work to develop the questionnaire materials in Qualtrics and help collect the data.
Position QualificationsOnly undergraduate students who have federal work-study (FWS) awards as part of their financial aid package are eligible.The student should be able to research a topic using journals and sources. Must be able to photograph people. The student must be good at following instructions and writing. The student must work independently. Experience with Qualtrics is a plus.
Work HoursExact schedule to be determined with faculty supervisor; 5-8 hours per week when school is in session and no more than 20 hours per week during breaks. Once the student’s work-study funds are exhausted the position must end; there are no additional funds to supplement work-study funds and federal law prohibits the students from volunteering for the same work they were previously paid for. For this reason, the faculty supervisor must work with the student to ensure a distribution of hours that will enable the student to work on the project throughout the academic year and not spend beyond the student’s work-study award.
