Program Description: The Nurturing Parenting Program (NPP), a curriculum-based parenting skills education and coaching program to improve parenting in relation to expectations of children, parental empathy towards children's needs, non-violent discipline, parent-child family roles, children's power, and independence.

The Family Support Worker (FSW)- Nurturing Parenting Partner works with the family in their homes or temporary residence and assists them to strengthen parental protective factors to reduce the risk of child abuse or neglect and enhance parent/caregiver capacities so that children are safe in their own homes. Case types may include family preservation, reunification, or stabilization.

The FSW meets weekly with the family for two hours over a maximum of 120 days or 17 weeks. This includes meeting with the parent for NPP education sessions, observation of parenting time and review of progress with the parent. The position may, from time to time, be stressful and require a high demand of performance. Travel is a requirement of the position. May perform other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Engages the family into services, utilizing engagement and retention techniques
  • Makes telephone contact within two (2) business days and in-person contact within five (5) business days from referral receipt.
  • Completes a comprehensive assessment if not completed by Family Connections program.
  • Completes the Family Nurturing Plan within the first session with the family which is held within 72 hours from the intake meeting.
  • Provides weekly parenting sessions utilizing the Nurturing Parenting curriculum.
  • Participates with other stakeholders as part of the team, including DCS and other community agencies.
  • Maintains communication with DCS case manager and agency providing supervised visitation services to coordinate observation of parenting time.
  • Thoroughly documents all case activity timely and accurately.
  • Is available to provide services on weekends and evenings; is accessible to families for emergencies or referral to crisis services.
  • Participates in case file preparation as needed for each client referred, ensuring all relevant documents are updated and included.
  • Completes weekly progress reports, the Family Nurturing Plan and Reassessment Summary per the required timeframes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Suitable work experience may be considered as transferable skills in order to meet minimum requirements of the position and will be considered by the Corporate Director of Human Resources.

  • Associate degree in Social Work, Counseling, or related Human Service field or a High School Diploma/GED and five (2) years' related experience
  • Must be able to work as part of a diverse group.
  • Pass pre-employment and annual drug screening.
  • Demonstrates problem-solving skills.
  • Has or obtains knowledge and understanding of Social Work Theory, Family-Centered Practice, family engagement, motivational interviewing, and treatment philosophies of family-based services.
  • Has or obtains knowledge and ability to access community resources; helps families connect with needed recourses or services.
  • Essential physical requirements include walking, sitting, standing, driving, lifting lightweight office supplies and equipment, talking hearing seeing and writing.
  • Obtain State of Arizona Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Pass pre-employment and annual drug screening.
  • Valid Arizona Driver License, proof of insurance, Arizona Motor Vehicle Division 39-month Motor Vehicle Report, and reliable, safe transportation

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Services or related field
  • Additional years of directly related experience in a child welfare setting.
  • Bilingual English / Spanish, verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated experience working with a culturally diverse community.
