    POSITION SUMMARY:
    The Family and Community Resource Specialist (FCRS) will interface with many families from diverse backgrounds, collecting information in order to determine eligibility in the program. The FCRS is responsible for contacting families by phone and email, conducting in-person family interviews, scheduling appointments with families, maintaining their confidential file, maintaining a multiple databases, while maintaining a waitlist. This position is heavily rooted in data entry. The ideal candidate will be able to multi-task and have an attention to detail while providing excellent confidential customer service.

    The FCRS provides ongoing multi-faceted support to families being served within the Preschool program. The FCRS supports Family Engagement and the goal setting process and assists with connecting families to community resources and services for their child, and/or their family.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
    BA in Human Services, Social Work, or Early Childhood required
    Experience working with young children (under 5 years of age)
    Experience working with children and families of diverse cultural and economic backgrounds
    Experience working with children with special needs
    Training/experience in the health-care field desired
    Must possess valid Michigan driver's license and access to reliable transportation

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists in ensuring maximum enrollment for the Head Start program and the creation and maintenance of a waitlist.
      Assist Head Start families in the electronic enrollment process by conducting initial interviews with parents and assisting in completion of all necessary formsAssists families in developing ways to break down barriers keeping them from becoming active and engaged members of their communityAssists families in carrying out health and social services recommendation for referrals, in some cases attending appointments with families.Maintains an accurate, up to date family service record on each assigned Head Start childReview health records of students to identify special needs and to coordinate total health care including nutrition, dental and medical careMaintain ongoing communication with parents of Head Start childrenSupports parent engagement in the Head Start programFacilitate Parent Council and conduct Parent Meetings and workshopsPlan and complete home visits to families with children enrolled in Head Start, as neededIdentify and utilize community resources to help with health care, speech and hearing needs, mental health issues and any other family related issuesVisit and assist in Head Start classroomsAttend and participate in IEPT processDesign, in cooperation with Supervisor and other family service workers, 215-day work schedule to include work during June, July and AugustRegular and reliable attendanceAbility to present information effectively and respond to questions from groups of educators, customers, and the general publicOther duties may be assigned

    TECHNICAL SKILLS:
      Demonstrated proficiency in the use of personal computer (PC) and MAC in a networked environment to utilize the Internet and other electronic communications mechanisms such as email, conferencing, bulletin boards, etc.Ability to integrate technology into the everyday work flow is necessaryExcellent knowledge of productivity applications such as Microsoft Office (word processing, spreadsheets, database, spreadsheets, and presentation software) and other technology to support efficient and effective office operation is requiredAbility to implement new technologiesAbility to read and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, governmental regulations and forms
