Neighborhood House's clients represent a remarkably diverse mix of ethnicities and cultures. To meet the needs of these diverse communities, Neighborhood House offers culturally specific services for African, Latino, Middle Eastern, and Russian immigrants in various programs and requires cultural competency of all programs and staff. 38% of our program staff are bicultural from cultures served by Neighborhood House; 12% more are bilingual. Neighborhood House staff regularly provide diversity training for other organizations, including Multnomah County, Portland Public Schools and Home Forward.
Neighborhood House is seeking a Part-time Facilities and Maintenance Specialist to support our existing facilities and program support team.
Reporting to the Turning Point program manager, this position will be responsible for the maintenance of our Turning Point facility which will include the main building with its rooms and offices, surrounding grounds, and parking lot and dumpster area and provide emergency assistance to residents after regular business hours.
This position is a part-time temporary / un-benefited with potential to move to a direct hire / benefited position depending on budgetary approval and performance review. Should this position be funded, the incumbent will receive a new job description with amended duties and responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High school graduate and two (2) years of maintenance and/or janitorial experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Capable of performing light repairs, basic landscaping and maintenance. Ability to communicate well both orally and in writing and to follow general directions.
Strictly adhere to Neighborhood House client confidentiality policy.
QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to work effectively with homeless families facing multiple challenges and work independently. Maintain a professional appearance and positive attitude when dealing with co-workers, residents and the public.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures and communicate effectively with those whose English language skills are limited. Excellent oral and written communication and ability to communicate professionally with clients, families, service providers, community members and co-workers. Ability to work as a team player. Ability to work with timely and confidential information as needed.
