Neighborhood House staff regularly provide diversity training for other organizations, including Multnomah County, Portland Public Schools and Home Forward.

Neighborhood House is seeking a Part-time Facilities and Maintenance Specialist to support our existing facilities and program support team.

Reporting to the Turning Point program manager, this position will be responsible for the maintenance of our Turning Point facility which will include the main building with its rooms and offices, surrounding grounds, and parking lot and dumpster area and provide emergency assistance to residents after regular business hours.

This position is a part-time temporary / un-benefited with potential to move to a direct hire / benefited position depending on budgetary approval and performance review. Should this position be funded, the incumbent will receive a new job description with amended duties and responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Must have physical presence on-site during normal work hours.
• Weekly cleaning duties include the common areas, laundry room, parking lot, offices entryways, hallways, restrooms, kitchen, dumpster area, grounds and sidewalks.
• Clean all spills such as bodily fluids and clean apartments with mold, spoiled food or waste.
• Responsible for cleaning, checking smoke detectors and the painting of units within ten (10) working days of a resident’s move-out.
• Inspect units at least once a month and complete inspections reports.
• Follow COVID restrictions and regulations.
• Maintain adequate records regarding to residents and the units.
• Complete all necessary repairs or arrange for an independent contractor to perform the service with supervisor’s approval.
• Notify supervisor when it appears that a resident has abandoned he/her/they may have abandoned their unit or other concerns.
• Perform regular and routine maintenance tasks that include: winterizing tasks, monitoring and preventive maintenance of safety features, regular upkeep, repairs within units and throughout the complex, and landscape maintenance.
• Pick up donations for Neighborhood House per supervisor’s schedule.
• Enforce all Neighborhood House rules and regulations with residents and inform the supervisor of any infractions to the rules and regulations by completing an Incident Report immediately following the violation(s).
• Order removal of illegal or inoperable vehicles from the parking lot.
• Order, track, pick up and/or deliver necessary supplies for Turning Point.
• Maintain complete records of all functions performed and hours worked.
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High school graduate and two (2) years of maintenance and/or janitorial experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Capable of performing light repairs, basic landscaping and maintenance. Ability to communicate well both orally and in writing and to follow general directions.
Strictly adhere to Neighborhood House client confidentiality policy.

QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to work effectively with homeless families facing multiple challenges and work independently. Maintain a professional appearance and positive attitude when dealing with co-workers, residents and the public.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures and communicate effectively with those whose English language skills are limited. Excellent oral and written communication and ability to communicate professionally with clients, families, service providers, community members and co-workers. Ability to work as a team player. Ability to work with timely and confidential information as needed.
