We manufacture and sell an innovative collection of proven structural framing materials to the residential, multi-family and light commercial markets, and also provide seamless building solutions, from design to installation to support. Weyerhaeuser has an immediate opening for a Facility Environmental Manager supporting the Millport, AL and Evergreen, AL operations. The Environmental Manager is responsible for leading all aspects of the operations’ environmental work. Duties include implementing systems to operate in compliance with federal and state environmental regulations and permit conditions, championing best practices to achieve customer satisfaction; maintaining all environmental operating plans and records, and driving best practices to improve unit performance. This position partners with the operations’ leadership teams to establish and model behavior that leads to excellent performance. This position reports to the Regional Environmental Manager.


This role is based at the Millport, AL facility and requires up to 40% travel, as the Facility Environmental Manager will divide their time between the Millport and Evergreen locations based on needs and ongoing activities.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Work safely, in full compliance with the facility safety procedures, policies and practices
  • Role model all standards/processes and on-the-job behavior by living our core principles of safety, integrity, sustainability and citizenship
  • Be accountable for compliance with environmental regulations and permit conditions on a daily basis
  • Ensure that inspections and recordkeeping are performed at required frequencies, and that environmental monitoring parameters are in accordance with permits, plans, government regulations, or other regulatory or company requirements
  • Build relationships with regulatory agencies concerning environmental compliance; and work with them to influence regulatory outcomes
  • Develop relationships with production leaders, managers, supervisors and associates to influence environmental best practices
  • Ensure proper and timely implementation of facility environmental plans and procedures
  • Resolve environmental upsets with the facility managers, regional environmental manager, appropriate regulatory agencies, and other appropriate company environmental contacts
  • Support and/or lead facility environmental compliance audits at the facility
  • Maintain environmental records at the facilities for mandatory retention periods or as determined appropriate
  • Manage environmental training for all employees as required
  • Participate as an active member of the operations’ lead teams to actively support unit and business goals and objectives and establish and model organizational behavior
  • Participate as an active member of the regional environmental team to support environmental efforts, train on new or changing regulatory matters, and share best management practices
  • Oversee consultants ensuring quality cost-effective service
  • Support Capital Projects
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree (or higher) from an accredited institution in an appropriate scientific, engineering or related field with 5+ years of related experience
  • Strong understanding of applicable environmental requirements and permits, including air, water and solid waste requirements, storm water, spill prevention and control, hazardous materials, and chemical management
  • Understands compliance management systems
  • Understands the environmental compliance audit/inspection process and ability to complete an internal/external audit/inspection
  • Project management skills to include the ability to develop and implement environmental processes
  • Proven skills in administering, managing and training on environmental policies and regulatory requirements
  • Strong, engaging, people-centered leadership style
  • Proactive, assertive and ability to work with a sense of urgency
  • Ability to work under pressure and commitment to organize and meet deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal and electronic communication skills
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to lead and promote teamwork
  • Demonstrated basic computer skills and proficiency in MS Office and other windows-based programs
  • Willingness to support 24/7 operating environments, which may include weekend and holiday support as conditions require
  • Ability to perform essential job functions of working in an industrial environment, such as climbing stairs and working in extreme heat and cold
  • Ability and vehicle to drive in geographic region, and overnight travel in Alabama area
  • High level of integrity, strong work ethic, good judgment and problem-solving skills
