Observes and assists experienced machinists in the performance of the job duties following this paragraph in order to learn and develop the skills required to perform all job duties required of a Fabrication Shop Operator. Positions, aligns and bolts dies, blades, bedplates, cushion pins, and stops, using shims and measuring tools. May set up automatic or multipurpose machines. Operates machine to produce metal parts to specifications on production basis. Operates deburring equipment to provide safe finish to metal parts. Operates turret punch press to punch holes or layout marks in metal sheets, plates, strips or bars following diagrams for each cut. Inserts, aligns and locks punches and dies in turret, using hammer, shims, feelers, micrometers and setscrews. Pushes button to turn turret to specified punch and die, presses pedal to activate punch. Differentiates between various metal types and thickness to ensure correct type of metal is being used in the particular task assignment. Adjusts flow of lubricants, pressure and depth of stroke, or feed of material, applying knowledge of thickness and properties of metal or according to standard specifications. Determines special handling procedures or techniques needed for specific project. Reviews end product of work performed for errors or deficiencies and takes steps required to correct such errors or deficiencies found. Accurately and efficiently completes all forms and reports related to work performed in the fab shop. Makes trial runs and measures work piece for conformance to specifications. Clears jams and corrects minor malfunction of machines. Reports need for machine repair to supervisor. May set up drill presses. May be required to cross train and become proficient on operation of all machinery in the department. Works cooperatively and congenially with co-workers to achieve cohesive and productive work processes and work environment. Perform additional tasks as assigned by management or as the situation requires. Ability to read and follow /blueprints/diagrams of refrigeration model unit. Ability to use a variety of small hand tools and power tools. Ability to read a tape measure. Possess basic mechanical aptitude and ability. Ability to read and write. Ability to use squares, straight edges, rulers, calipers, micrometers, gauges, feeler, templates and hand tools. Ability to communicate clearly with co-workers. EDUCATION: High School Diploma or Equivalent PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to: Attend work regularly and report promptly for duty on the days and at the times scheduled by the supervisor. Stand and walk up to a minimum of eight (8) hours per day on a concrete surface. Schedule may vary based on production needs. May perform combination of physical movements to reach areas difficult to access including bending, stooping, squatting, reaching, twisting and rotation motions using head/neck, arms, wrists, waist, knees and arms while performing duties. Lift and carry components, tools, or other items weighing no more than 50 pounds. Any component, tool, or item weighing more than 50 pounds, must be done with assistance. Pull and push up to 150 pounds to move units through assembly and finishing process. Handle small hand tools, power tools, and unit components. Handling may be done unilaterally (one-handed) or bilaterally (two-handed) depending on size and shape of object and task being performed. Constant use of hands and fingers in order to perform set ups, change over and break down of machinery parts, maneuver materials used in fabricating process, and other duties as required. Must have corrected vision to be aware of surroundings and location of items needed, and perform various other job duties. Must have corrected hearing to listen to needs and advice of supervisors and co-workers, and listen to the environment to be aware of surroundings. Must be capable of communicating verbally with supervisors and co-workers. Must be mentally alert and capable of remembering faces, names, oral instructions and details. Must be able to tolerate environmental conditions of plant which involves temperatures that may vary with seasonal changes and in which a high level of noise exists. Must be alert and able to identify a safety hazard, should one occur, in order to avoid it and to report it immediately to the appropriate person or, if directed, by taking corrective measures to eliminate the hazard. Must be able to react to changes in schedules in a productive manner and to handle other tasks as required by management. Must be able to tolerate wearing of designated personal protective equipment for the work assignment (i.e. safety glasses, cut-resistant gloves, hearing protection).
