DEFINITION:

Under the general supervision of the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services, the Fab Lab Program Development Specialist is responsible for general operations of the Fab Lab Mobile Makerspace. This position is responsible for overseeing the day to day operation of the Mobile Fab Lab and the maintenance of the equipment within the lab. Additionally, they will supervise and mentor, and promote the professional development of student interns, who provide the first point of customer service and technical assistance to learners in the Mobile Fab Lab.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following is a list of duties that is representative of the position that includes but is not limited to:

  • Operate the Fab Lab on a day-to-day basis and mentors students, teachers and community members by assisting them with their projects and ideas
  • Establish protocols for safe and effective use of the lab
  • Monitors and maintains optional safety conditions in the lab
  • Serve as a champion for the Fab Lab by promoting the opportunities available through various venues in the area and maintain partnerships with external organizations
  • Maintain the equipment, manages supply inventory, and manages the budget
  • Schedules and provides supervision of the lab and its staff and volunteers
  • Lead student interns and volunteers working in the Fab Lab and manages their training on the use of the Fab

Lab software, computers, and manufacturing equipment

  • Collaborate with all Fab Lab partners to promote the lab in the community
  • Assist administrators, teachers, students, and community members by providing professional development opportunities in the area of fabrication technology
  • Ensure that equipment and software in the lab is properly maintained and in optimal working condition
  • Provide routine maintenance of equipment in the lab
  • Repair equipment as needed and maintain inventory of consumable materials for learners
  • Teach learners in the Fab Lab how to use the various software and machinery available in the lab
  • Work with learners to assist in their projects, provide guidance in the development of their projects, and direct them to the most appropriate tools and resources
  • Carry out special tasks and projects as assigned by supervisor
  • Comply with Monterey County Office of Education Board policies, Superintendent policies, and Administrative regulations

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • Associate’s Degree in a STEM, or technical field from an accredited college, or equivalent
  • Any combination of experience and training equal to three (3) years of related services

Knowledge of:

  • Image editing, CAD/CAM applications, and design software
  • Fabrication equipment such as a vinyl printer/cutter, laser etcher/cutter, CNC mill, CNC plasma cutter, and other related equipment.
  • Manufacturing/industrial and rapid prototyping technology and machine shop equipment
  • Computer controlled technologies and the software used to manage those technologies.
  • Common desktop applications (web browsing, word processing, image editing etc.), specifically Outlook, Word, and Excel in the MS Office Suite
  • Windows Operating System and file management skills

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
  • Experience in public education environment
  • Supervisory experience
  • Experience with community-based Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM)
  • Experience working in a makerspace, or digital fabrication environment
  • Bilingual/Biliterate (English/Spanish)

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Possession of an appropriate, valid California driver’s license with evidence of insurability

Pay: $51,295.20 - $65,467.60 per year
