ABOUT THE ROLE

This Old House Ventures is seeking an Executive Editor to assign, edit, and/or top-edit columns and features for This Old House magazine. The position is based out of our Stamford, CT headquarters.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Produce compelling and longer features on the subject of home remodeling, home ownership, and home maintenance for a dual gender audience that is passionate about their houses.

· Assign and edit stories that demystify both the design challenges of home remodeling and the sometimes complex aspects of construction in an engaging, conversational voice.

· Closely follow, assign and edit print features on the serial renovations of This Old House TV’s project houses and the building of the This Old House Idea Houses.

· Conceive and pitch fresh editorial packages on all of the above.

· Work with the Design Team to develop content packages for the magazine and digital platforms that feature high-impact visuals (i.e. graphics, photos, illustrations) to explain home improvement topics.

· Assist the Digital Media team in augmenting content on ThisOldHouse.com as needed and as the print schedule allows.

ABOUT YOU

You have:

  • A minimum of five to ten years’ experience.
  • Excellent writing skills and the proven ability to edit and improve the work of others.
  • A deft hand with display copy.
  • Experience with both lively service articles and longer, deeper features.
  • Deep experience working with designers to bring editorial concepts to life.
  • A roster of accomplished writers and a talent for finding the right one for any given assignment.
  • A self-starter personality and the ability to multitask efficiently to meet competing deadlines.
  • A team-oriented approach to work and a willingness to pitch in whenever and wherever you are needed.
  • A keen interest in any and all aspects of home improvement, from design and construction to finishing touches, and a desire to learn what you don’t know.
