THE ROLE
The Executive Director, Chief of Staff, (ED COS) reports to the EVP of Southern California region and will enable the EVP to work most effectively with internal and external stakeholders and fulfill commitments to serve the evolving needs of Providence St. Joseph Health. The ED COS is a strategic operational officer who serves as a trusted advisor to the EVP, as well as in an active facilitator of team collaboration, strategy development, and goal achievement. The successful ED COS is a resourceful individual with strong emotional intelligence, self-motivation, and analytical skills.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Preparation for and facilitation of EVP led meetings: ED COS is accountable for ensuring that the meeting objectives are defined and achievable, team member preparation is appropriate, and CEO is well-prepared to meet with internal or external stakeholders.
- Coordination of projects directly involving the EVP and his direct reports: ED COS will serve as a team member when appropriate or project lead when necessary to ensure projects align with the organization’s goals and EVP’s strategic priorities.
- Attends meetings from time-to-time representing the EVP/CE.
- Chairs meetings as assigned by the EVP/CE.
- Provide independent leadership of designated projects: Work to advance key initiatives by convening key stakeholders, collaborating with critical partners, and communicating, as appropriate, project goals and progress.
- Manage confidential and time sensitive issues with integrity: Serve as a trusted advisor to EVP and the leadership team to facilitate the completion of analysis or assessments required for critical decision-making on high priority projects.
- Draft communication and briefing documents on behalf of EVP: Work with leaders to gather data and conduct research to complete reports, presentations, white papers, board documents, and other working documents.
- Proactively identify issues that may impact the successful execution of key initiatives, strategies, or program plans: Elevate issues that arise and require EVP’s immediate attention.
- Support the leadership team as needed to enhance the availability of the EVP: Attend meetings with or on behalf of the EVP in order to extend reach across the organization and with external audiences.
- Under the direction of the EVP, the ED COS may perform the following job functions:
- Identify strategic partnerships that advance the goals of the organization.
- Oversee development of strategic and operational plans for key strategies.
- Assist service line or department leaders with program development, business analysis, and progress reports.
- Help determine growth strategies that advance Providence Health and Services goals.
Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS
Required experience/education for this position include:
- Bachelor's Degree in Relevant field such as Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or Social, Medical, or Biomedical Science.
- 5 years of experience in a senior or executive level position within a healthcare or related business.
- 5 years of demonstrated experience performing described job functions, including strategic planning, business development, healthcare operations, executive management, healthcare consulting, and personnel management.
- Experience building consensus on complex issues.
- Experience managing senior leaders and health care professionals.
- Ability and willingness to travel on business-related matters to represent the EVP and serve the interest of Providence Health & Services.
- Ability to develop effective interpersonal relationships.
- Ability to lead teams with divergent interests and priorities.
- Able to work in a highly productive, fast-paced, evolving health care environment.
- Organizational and political agility.
- Project management skills.
- Strong operational and financial management, planning and analysis skills.
- Unquestionable personal code of ethics, personal integrity, and commitment to diversity and trust.
Preferred experience/education for this position include:
- Master's Degree in Relevant field such as Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or Social, Medical, or Biomedical Science; or equivalent educ/experience.
- Presentation or publication experience demonstrating oral and written communication skills.
- Strong track record developing and achieving strategic goals.
