Hours: Frequent travel and hours required beyond the standard 8:00 – 5:00. Weekend work is frequently required.

The individual in this position contributes to our food safety mission by providing technical support and service for Birko food safety equipment in plants around the U.S. As an important contact between customers, and the sales team, the Service Technician is responsible for installation of equipment as well as scheduled and emergency maintenance on equipment in some of the largest food production plants in the country. He/she will be responsible for meeting customer expectations and establishing relationships that help promote our company and its products.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
  • Preventative and ongoing equipment maintenance to ensure equipment is working at peak efficiency and customer expectations are met
  • Customer Support including written reports of maintenance performed
  • Responding to service calls, troubleshooting problems, and making repairs
  • Capital equipment site surveys
  • Installation and start-up of equipment at customer sites

  • Maintaining an awareness of and following procedures
  • If procedures fail to result in desired outcome notifying supervisor
  • Being involved in updates to procedures and suggesting improvements
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Strong mechanical and electrical background; with a preference for basic plumbing and 460, 230, and 120 VAC and 24 VDC basic wiring
  • Electronics experience
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to establish positive customer relationships is essential
  • Food manufacturing experience preferred; knowledge of industrial safety practices a plus
  • Capital equipment service experience
  • Microsoft Office skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a team
  • Ability to learn to product line, troubleshoot problems, and complete ongoing maintenance and troubleshoot repairs
  • Ability to read and understand installation and assembly drawings or electrical wiring diagrams provided with the equipment
  • Requires work in plant settings where environment can be extremely cold or extremely hot, in excess of 100° F. Plant environments may be wet and have slippery surfaces. Working from a ladder or man lift may be necessary. Dirt, oil, grease, animal parts may be present. Environment may have an unpleasant odor. Working with highly concentrated chemicals that require the use of safety equipment and practices.
  • Ability to frequently lift, push, or move equipment that weighs 1-75 pounds, up to 100 pounds; constantly bend, twist and push while moving equipment
  • Ability to speak/read/write in English
  • Ability to travel frequently (both by air and by car), sometimes with no prior notice
  • Must possess and maintain valid driver's license
  • Weekend work will be required
