Regional Information Our R. J. Corman Railroad Services Company, West Fargo, ND: While our core business is re-railing rail cars and cleaning up derailments, we also provide assistance to our customers on engineering projects, right-of-way maintenance, snow removal, changing traction motors, servicing locomotives and any other request they might have that we are staffed and equipped to provide assistance with. We provide emergency services to our customers, therefore our employees are on-call 24/7. Our hiring standards are listed below. We are currently in need of the following positions:

Equipment Operator with Class A CDL: An operator drives commercial motor vehicles, operators heavy equipment, performs basic maintenance tasks & upkeep on trucks, trailers & equipment. They may also be required to assist in labor duties from time to time. At R. J. Corman we have very high standards for appearance & upkeep of our vehicles, equipment and facilities therefore all employees are required to participate in daily cleaning, maintenance and upkeep of the facilities, vehicles & equipment.

Groundsman/Laborer with Class A CDL: A groundsman is our basic laborer position. We provide emergency services to our customers, so we have to be capable of moving our equipment internally, thus the CDL requirement. In addition to driving a commercial motor vehicle, the groundsman will assist in the set-up of the heavy equipment (sidebooms) and be the labor force in rigging the railcars or other items that require lifting and/or winching operations. In addition to driving and rigging, they will be required to perform track maintenance tasks, run power tools (such as weed eaters, chain saws, grinders, etc.), perform basic mechanical tasks on trucks, trailers and equipment. They will be required to run or operate specialty trucks & equipment like grapple trucks, vacuum trucks, skid steers, rubber tired loaders, etc. At R. J. Corman we have very high standards for appearance & upkeep of our vehicles, equipment and facilities therefore all employees are required to participate in daily cleaning, maintenance and upkeep of the facilities, vehicles & equipment. Since we have over 18 Divisions in 15 states and various different types of Divisions, we have a standard pay scale that we use in hiring and promoting our personnel (our pay scale was recently updated).

Here are some of our hiring standards:

  • Because of our commitment to provide emergency services to our customers, where we guarantee that we’ll be responding within an hour, our employees must live within 45 minutes of our shop for call-out purposes.
  • Because we move our own equipment from job to job and back to our facilities, our employees must have a Class A CDL. (We are willing to work with personnel who have a valid Class B or a learner’s permit.)
  • As mandated by DOT regulations our employees must have a valid DOT medical card and it must be on file with the state that they are licensed in.
  • In order to be compliant with DOT and Railroad Regulations our employees must be able to pass a drug screen (we do urine & hair sampling).
  • For insurance reasons and to be compliant with Federal Regulations our employee must be able to pass driving record and background checks. Some common disqualifiers on this requirement include having a DUI within the last five years, having multiple DUIs, felony convictions and multiple violations on the PSP check.
  • In order to be complaint with our insurance providers all employees are also required to successfully complete a pre-employment physical.
