Description The City of Norfolk’s Department of Public Works is seeking an Equipment Operator III to operate heavy construction equipment and perform general construction, repair, and maintenance of city sidewalks, streets, and bridges within the Division of Streets & Bridges. Essential functions include but are not limited to: Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency.
The Department of Public Works builds, maintains, and operates the physical facilities that support and enhance the lives of Norfolk’s citizens, businesses and visitors, including the City’s storm water system, street network, waste management and recycling systems. The Department is comprised of 8 divisions that function collectively to make your commute safe and efficient, your neighborhood more attractive, and the streets and sidewalks clean and well-maintained.
Hiring Salary Range: $32,758 – $37,671Essential Functions
Operates equipment assigned, such as dump trucks, motor graders, pay loaders, backhoes, milling machines, asphalt rollers, tractors, cranes, snow equipment, cement mixers, asphalt distributors and various other mechanical equipment.

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday 7:00 am to 3:30 pm; 40 hours per week every week; This position may require the candidate to work a mandatory rotating on-call schedule and respond to after-hour emergencies.
