The Environmental Services Technician performs cleaning of all patient care and public areas in the organization
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide housekeeping and cleaning services to patient rooms, nursing units, surgical areas, administrative offices, laboratory areas, waiting areas and public restrooms in a hospital environment using prescribed cleaning methods and procedures.
- Responsible for daily cleaning schedules and routines as provided by the onsite manager to ensure that expected standards of cleaning are met daily sanitary conditions as required by state inspectors and OSHA safety regulations.
- Must clean operating rooms, inpatient rooms, restrooms, and common areas which includes sweeping, mopping, trash disposal and stocking of various cleaning equipment, cleaning supplies, cleaning chemicals, and various materials.
- Notifies director of any equipment, furniture, or building fixtures that are in need of maintenance.
- Mix appropriate proportions of cleaning and disinfecting materials following safety protocols.
- Create and maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment.
- Inform supervisor of any cleaning equipment that may need repair or replacement.
- Mix appropriate quantities of cleaning liquids and chemicals in accordance to safety procedures set by the hospital management
- Inform supervisor about any building hazard and assist in addressing it.
- Maintain a clean and organized storage area for cleaning equipment and supplies, and adequate supplies.
- Must stay current and knowledgeable on proper disinfection practices and infection control requirements by following all Federal, State and Regulatory standards and techniques for infection reduction.
- Demonstrates the spirit of the philosophy, mission, and values of the hospital through words and actions and implements them into departmental processes, programs, and the working environment.
- Applies the principles and values of customer service and continuous quality improvement while performing day to day activities of the position.
- Maintains and protects confidentiality regarding all aspects of patient care, personnel and strategic issues. Adheres to Confidentiality Policy.

Education
- High School Diploma or GED preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- One (1) year related experience and/or training, preferably in a hospital setting.
