This position serves as the technical leader, mentor and subject matter expert for the program by performing complex environmental health functions as assisting staff on food born illnesses, accurately interpreting regulations, provides consultation and training to EH staff to ensure staff are Standardized in order to conduct food inspections, assists OEHS in conducting training and may provide formal input into performance evaluations of EH staff.
Minimum Qualifications Current VDH Standardized Environmental Health Specialist. Experience in food safety interventions, identification of risk factors known to contribute to foodborne illness and dealing with HACCP Plans. Proficiency in using VENIS to record physical facility information, printing permits, and entering inspections on food establishments. Computer software knowledge. Experience in reviewing restaurant plan reviews. Experience in developing training and providing effective communication
Preferred Qualifications Graduation from college with a degree in public health, environmental health or a degree related to the duties of the position preferred or equivalent experience in environmental health, such as experience gained as an Environmental Health Associate. Prefer some experience in Public Health.
Special Requirements Employment is contingent upon satisfactory results of a state and federal
criminal history background check and the Department of Social Service’s
Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry check, U.S. HHS IG Exclusion List
check, employment reference check, and E-Verify. The selected candidate
must complete a Statement of Personal Economic Interests as a condition of
employment, if applicable (Va. Code § 2.2-3114). Other financial, credit,
driving, or other background checks prior to employment may be required
for certain positions.
VDH requires all Health-Care Personnel (HCP) to provide documentation of
immunization or evidence of immunity to the following: hepatitis B, measles,
mumps, rubella, and varicella; a one-time dose of tetanus, diphtheria, and
pertussis (Tdap) vaccine regardless of the interval since the last dose of
tetanus-diphtheria (Td) vaccine was administered (Td or Tdap boosters shall
be received every 10 years); and the current year’s seasonal influenza
vaccination.
