Environmental Compliance Specialist Details

Summary of Position

The Environmental Compliance Specialist is responsible for maintaining and improving environmental compliance programs, assisting with environmental permitting / approvals, and assisting with developing environmental best management practices to support E&P development and operations. This position is responsible for providing technical support to engineering and operations departments and the development of records management systems, agency reporting and will assist with environmental evaluations and assessments.


General Job Responsibilities

  • Assist with development of internal data management systems and compliance programs as needed. Types of programs may include: air, water, waste, and remediation.
  • Assist field environmental and operational teams with implementation, execution and oversight of environmental programs and procedures.
  • Assist with preparation, submittal and maintenance of environmental reports to regulatory agencies and management.
  • Assist with development and presentation of environmental compliance and pollution prevention training programs including working with operations to development best management practices necessary for regulatory compliance.
  • Under general direction, assist in the analysis of the company’s regulatory compliance posture and keep abreast of changing rules and stay current with industry practices.
  • Liaison between company operations and agencies.
  • Review proposed actions by regulatory agencies to determine impact on company operations.
  • Manage environmental contractors, track schedules and budgets, and review deliverables for permitting, compliance, and other related projects and studies to ensure cost effective and timely completion.
  • Coordinate with EHS staff and other departments to provide input or review where necessary in the well and gathering system development process to ensure compliance with all applicable environmental regulatory and permitting requirements.
  • Mentor and develop staff as necessary.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all other company departments.
  • Effectively communicate as needed to meet expected operational goals at all levels in the organization, with strong oral and written skills and willingness to share information.
  • Provide a strong service mentality with a collaborative and flexible style.
  • Provide the planning necessary to be forward looking for the company.
  • A leader in safe operating practices and ensures compliance with Civitas EHS&RC requirements.
  • Assure all work performed adheres to Civitas standards.
  • Attend seminars and training as necessary in order stay informed about area federal, state and local environmental/safety requirements.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent job experience
  • A minimum of 4+ years in an Environmental Engineering or Science Role
  • Experience in upstream oil and gas related industry
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local environmental requirements
  • Knowledge of federal and recent Colorado air regulations. Experience with non-attainment area a plus.
  • Knowledge of relevant computer applications such as; Microsoft Office Suite, ARC GIS, and ACTS.
