Job Duties/Scope Of Work
Hanford Mission Integration Solutions (HMIS) is seeking an Enterprise Architect (EA) in the support of the Department of Energy (DOE) Hanford Site. The Enterprise Architect will help lead digital transformation efforts and strengthen our architecture discipline to be more mission focused. This includes bringing together employees across the site who perform Architecture, Analysis, Development and Project Management activities. This position will maximize business value by strengthening our business and Information Technology (IT) design practices through partnership, community, structure, and guidance. This position will also serve as a liaison between the Leadership, Other Hanford Contractor CIOs, IT Directors, IT Architects, IT application and IT infrastructure teams to ensure solutions are implemented within the agreed Architectural Principles, Policies and Guidelines.

The Enterprise Architect is responsible for the creation and management of technology architecture models, standards, and EA repository. The EA will interpret and apply Enterprise Architecture standards and principles to inform a broad range of professionals on business improvement activities, including those relating to the design, development, maintenance, and roadmaps of IT Systems. It is expected that the Enterprise Architect maintains the architecture in an organized manner and security/quality are considered as important as content.

The Enterprise Architect should ensure that the business process and technology perspectives are aligned with the governance strategies, policies, and standards. Will work as a team; Enterprise Architects use their influence to steer projects and technology teams towards meeting business objectives and to optimize value creation.

Additional job duties include:

  • Lead the creation and evolution of the Enterprise Architecture program and promote the value of this program to the Site mission and IT organizations.
  • Use business and operating models, as well as market and technology industry trends to determine potential impact or value to Hanford Site's business strategies, direction, and technical architecture.
  • Develop an EA repository that provides value to DOE, the mission process owners, IT managers and IT professionals.
  • Develop and implement an Enterprise Architecture Plan based on business requirements which results in a roadmap of IT strategies.
  • Seek opportunities to highlight how digital business initiatives and connect enterprise integration strategies positively impact mission capabilities.
  • Develop enterprises' architectures that measure value through business metrics.
  • Be an enabler of strategy formulation, and act as support for technology innovation.
  • Construct technology-enabled operating models and provide viable options and visibility into execution issues.
  • Understand the Hanford Site's economic and financial levers that are susceptible to digital transformation to effectively support and guide technology investment decisions.
  • Construct future and current-state business models to apply emerging technologies.
  • Scan the market for major disruptive technology and technology trends that affect Hanford's mission and business processes.
  • Provide practical advice and best practices to overcome challenges.
  • Track and apply innovative and existing technologies.
  • Use rapid prototyping approaches to evolve innovations, create new services and integrating the best of these into site standards and steady-state operations.
  • Work with business peers to develop and present business capability models and road maps to facilitate discussion and decision making with key stakeholders.
  • Lead analysis of the IT environment to detect critical deficiencies and recommend solutions for continual improvement.
  • Consult with IT infrastructure, business analysis, security, application, and project teams to ensure consistency with the Enterprise Architecture, as well as to identify when it is necessary to modify the Enterprise Architecture.

Basic Qualifications
* Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • 10+ years of IT technology, analysis, and design experience.
  • Familiar with Business ecosystems, Software as a Service (SaaS), Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), APIs, open data, microservices, machine learning, data lakes, framework development, business analytics, IoT, event-driven IT and predictive analytics.
  • Knowledge of IT compliance processes and standards.

Desired Qualifications
* Strong familiarity with at least one common Enterprise Architecture framework (e.g. TOGAF, ISO 19439, NIST, FEAF, etc.).
  • Relevant Enterprise Architecture certification.
  • Delivering initiatives successfully inside heavily regulated environments (e.g. Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Sarbannes-Oxley, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
  • Experience in a DevOps environment with a focus on automation.
  • Experience with robust Disaster Recovery approaches and designs.
  • Knowledge of security architectures and their impact on Enterprise Architecture.
  • Understanding of Agile development principles and their applicability within the Enterprise Architecture discipline.
