Engineer Tech - Forging Department

Purpose:
This position is responsible for all process improvements within the Forging Dept. with an emphasis on ensuring daily Safety, Quality, Throughput, and Cost are met for the Forge Department. Ensures all engineering procedures deliver the highest quality possible. In addition, compliance with the operating schedules must be maintained as this is critical to meeting customer demands and ensuring material flow is consistent for downstream operations.
General Duties:
- Ensuring consistent basic quality standards and procedures up and down work chain
- Responsible for P&L impact
- Identifying and assembling key team members for projects.
- Laying out project parameters
- Manufacturing analysis to reach peak efficiency
- Manufacturing improvement/refinement review
- Implementing technological advances
- Input with product development and Tooling Dept. by evaluating, design, implementation and operation of new and existing products.
- Identifying new opportunities to impact business and operations goals positively
- Major focus in part quality to ensure downstream operations requirements are met and/or surpassed
- Conduct research that test and analyzes the feasibility, design, operation and performance of equipment, components and systems
- Works effectively with personnel in plant supervision, shop set up, process techs, operation and quality in order to coordinate the first time set up and troubleshooting of production operations
- Provides engineering support to maintenance in the troubleshooting, rebuilding and repair of forging equipment.
- Initiates safety improvements
- Promotes, maintains, and enforces safe and healthy working conditions for all employees in accordance with requirements
- Initiates and executes continuous improvement projects, including brainstorming, information gathering and analysis, proposal development based on cross-functional input and cost justification of any required investment.
- Interacts with vendors to determine appropriate specifications and to arrange for the purchase of equipment, materials, or services
- Ensure that all work activities are performed in accordance with established safety and environmental standards
- Interfaces with all departments to keep up to date on project status and ensure timely completing of projects.
- Major focus in part quality and repeatability at the manufacturing process
- Ensure all SOP up to date and are followed and not deviated from.
- Other duties as assigned by the Forging Manager.
Skills:
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited schedule standardization exists
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
- Working knowledge and demonstrated use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point
- Working knowledge of QAD systems and EAM systems
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred and 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Heavy Manufacturing shop floor experience required.
