SUMMARYThe Employment Support Professional provides direct services to clients with mental health and/or substance use issues to help find and keep competitive employment that is consistent with their vocational goals. The Employment Support Professional is responsible for the full range of employment duties, including intake, engagement, job development, training in appropriate job skills, and monitoring for ongoing job success and needed interventions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES• Provide all critical elements of IPS-SE – career profile, benefits counseling, behavioral health integration, addressing barriers to employment, rapid job search, systematic job development, support with disclosure, job accommodations/assistive technology, follow along supports, career and education development and ongoing skill building and psychiatric rehabilitation.• Develop the PCP or Employment Plan for individuals assigned;• Collaborate with EPMs, behavioral health providers, families, natural supports, housing, transportation, and other community service providers who support the individual;• Coordinate services and assure person-centeredness in the service planning process;• Develop relationships with employers by learning about their businesses, hiring practice, hiring preferences and business priorities over multiple visits.• Engage client and establish trusting, collaborative relationships directed toward the goal of competitive employment in community settings. • Identify and intervene to address barriers that impede the client’s development of skills necessary for working independently in the community.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:• Knowledge and application of the evidence-based model;• Knowledge of the following employment approaches: o Individual Placement and Support; o Customized Employment; o Self-Employment, Micro-Enterprise, Small Business; o Business-Led Internship Training;• Knowledge of mental health or human services system;• General knowledge of a variety of work environments such as manufacturing, service or trades and job requirements;• General knowledge of available community resources, and ability to link clients to community resources;• Basic knowledge of the local labor market; • Skills & experience in working with individuals, families, formal and informal supports;• Skills and experience in working with individuals with MH/DD/SA disabilities; • Ability to develop rapport with employers and other involved human service professionals and family members;
