POSITION SUMMARY

We are pleased to offer the opportunity to work as an Emergency Management Specialist within DuPage County's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (OHSEM).

It is the mission of OHSEM to help prepare residents, businesses, and government entities within our county to respond to and recover from these large-scale emergencies or disasters. We are convinced that this “disaster resilience” starts at the local level and includes every person, business, and organization in the county. Through county-wide emergency planning, training, and community outreach efforts, OHSEM works with all sectors of our county to promote disaster preparedness and resilience.

Responsibilities include:

• 
  Conducts hazard analysis and mitigation planning
• Reviews and make recommendations to DuPage County’s Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan (CEMP) Maintenance
• Performs specialized planning programs (i.e. Continuity of Operations / Continuity of Government Planning, Mass Pharmaceutical Distribution Planning, Pandemic Planning, and Emergency Operations Center Planning) for use in an event of an emergency within the County
• Aides DuPage Municipalities with Plan Development
• Coordinates various trainings and incident preparation exercises which are deemed applicable to ensure County readiness in the event of an emergency
• Tracks DuPage County Emergency Management Training Records
• Coordinates Citizen Preparedness Education, Emergency Public Information and Warning, Community & Spontaneous Volunteer Management
• Serves as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Liaison
• Tracks donation management
• Serves as Assistant Duty Officer on a rotating basis
• Participates in a 24-hour rotation on-call duty when the Emergency Operations Center is open

Requirements for this position include the following experience or equivalent combination of training and experience:

• 
  Completion of a Bachelor's degree in Emergency Management or related field
• One (1) year of experience in the development and coordination of emergency management activities
• Must possess an Illinois Driver’s License in good standing

• NIMS, ICS, HSEEP certifications
• Federal & State compliant exercise development
• Skill in preparing and evaluating exercises
• Experience in COOP/COG and other Emergency Management Professional standards
• Possess excellent oral and written communications and have experience creating and providing presentations to the public
• Experience as a Public Information Officer
