Elementary METCO Coordinator Details

Qualifications: Bachelors DegreeMasters Degree in Counseling preferredSchool Adjustment Counselor experience or its equivalentpreferredExperience in conducting elementary and adolescent groups,play therapy, and other forms of psychotherapyDemonstrated ability working with individuals of diverse backgroundsExperience with urban literacy, youth education and administration skills preferredInterest in working with children in a cross-cultural environmentSuccessful completion of a Criminal Record Check (C.O.R.I.)Performance Responsibilities: 1.Assist the METCO Director with the administration and management of the METCO Program.2.Help create an atmosphere that is conductive to learning and healthy social development by consulting regularly with regular and special education teachers, guidance counselors, psychologists, administrators and other staff regarding students social-emotional and academic performance needs.3.Provide individual and group counseling services as needed4.Assist with the Morning Breakfast Program and the Afternoon Dismals. 5.Serve as a liaison between Bedford Public Schools and METCO parents as needed.6.Create and Implement group and individual meetings through the creation of new programs where appropriate for both parents and students.7.Communicate with METCO parents regarding the educational status of each METCO student, as needed.8.Advocate for METCO students in collaboration with the METCO Director.9.Maintain METCO students information and attendance records, as needed.10.Coordinate transportation and transportation issues for METCO student, as needed.11.Work with the department secretary regarding correspondence, mailings, phone calls, etc.12. Be available for crisis interventions13.Assist and run parent meetings within Boston and Bedford as needed.14.Perform any other duties as directed by the METCO Director and/or the Superintendent of Schools.Essential Functions of the Job: Must possess the ability to: Work cooperatively with the administration, teachers, parents and students in the development of the program.Facilitate the educational and socialization process of students.Collaborate with METCO and Bedford parents and the school district.Specialty Area: Must be able to: Promote inter-and intra-program collaborationDemonstrate clear and concise written and oral communications skills with administration, staff and parents.Physical and Environmental Demands: The physical and environmental demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.Normal school environmentAbility to freely move about the buildings Ability to travel to, and work in, multiple buildingsSome travel by personal automobileExtended time at terminal, telephone, or other office equipment
