Position Summary: Thousands of Wisconsin kids need help in reading and you can make all the difference. Offer your time and talent as a tutor and be more for these students. As a Reading Tutor, you’ll help students in kindergarten through third grade to become better readers. With great training and onsite coaching, we’ll prepare you to work one-on-one or in small groups to help kids develop their reading skills and confidence! Students make the most progress when you are there, so our tutors serve during school hours and are needed for the whole school year. We are currently recruiting for the 2021-22 school year. Tutors have the option of beginning in August 2021, October 2021 or January 2022. This is an AmeriCorps member position with Reading Corps. Although the earnings are modest, the rewards are great! Whether you are 18 or 85, the most important qualification is a desire to help children succeed. That said, you also need to meet the following minimum qualifications by the time you begin your service. Wisconsin Reading Corps is an AmeriCorps program that helps students in Kindergarten through third grade become successful readers. Started in 2015, the program has helped more than 2,000 students improve their skills and become better readers. A rigorous third party evaluation has consistently shown that students who have Reading Corps make greater gains. What's more - students with traditional risk factors make even greater gains than their peers! Reading Corps is replicated nationally in 12 states and the District of Columbia. Reading Corps is administered by Reading & Math, Inc., through a formal partnership with ServeMinnesota. Reading & Math, Inc. is a national nonprofit based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and also administers California Reading Corps, Florida Reading Corps, Minnesota Reading Corps, California Math Corps, Minnesota Math Corps, Georgia Math Corps, Minnesota Opportunity Corps, Minnesota Recovery Corps and Community Forestry Corps.
