We are looking for an Electronics Overall Design Lead - NASA Space Suit Development to join our team. Do you have the following skills?

The selected candidate will:

  • Is responsible for the xEMU System Level electrical design and GSE electrical design
  • Maintains the top-level wiring diagrams for the xEMU project
  • Works with the Flight and GSE mechanical design leads to ensure proper integration between electrical and mechanical design
  • Maintains the top-level bonding diagrams (between boxes, powered components, cables/harnesses, hoses, grounding planes, and external interfaces) for the xEMU project
  • Report to internal upper management project design status
  • Evaluate the risk analysis and manage the risk mitigation tasks
  • Provide leadership to an engineering team with various experience levels
  • Mentor lower-level engineers to advance their engineering performance
  • Assist in project planning, resourcing includes selecting candidates and interviewing, hiring and skills development of the team.

Oversight and Delivery Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate all xEMU electrical design work
  • This includes understanding total electrical design scope across the project and where all the work is happening (JETS, C.S., and vendors)
  • Awareness of design team roles, and responsibilities and delivery milestones
  • Provide direction to the design engineers to accomplish the design plan directed by the Subsystem Leads and GSE project managers
  • Informs the project of design issues (schedule, risk, technical, etc.) and proposes a solution in a timely manner
  • Ensure that the xEMU electrical design addresses all requirements relevant to the electrical design from the PTRS down to each end item specification
  • Review the test plan and test procedure for system acceptance and qualification testing
  • Lead project design review including PDRs and CDRs
  • Facilitate communication across the electrical design team to maintain awareness of specific technical information that could impact the xEMU design
  • Standardize drawing/diagram styles and notes across the xEMU project
  • Perform review of electrical drawings at the system level, spot check drawings at the component level
  • Review end-to-end electrical schematics from the vehicle to the xEMU to component to ensure electrical interfaces are being designed correctly
  • Ensure electrical standards and design practices are consistent across xEMU subsystems and GSE
  • Independent reviewer for subsystem/component drawings/diagrams
  • For vendor electrical design, the electrical design lead is involved in vendor milestone reviews.

Coordination

  • Coordinates with the PD PM and the Subsystem Leads for electrical design work
  • Has responsibility for integrating across project designers and providing the subsystems with their design support
  • Has responsibility of the delivery of the xEMU and GSE electrical design under the JETS PDs
  • When changes to plan are needed, the xEMU electrical design lead works with electrical designers, Subsystems Leads, and the PD PMs to reprioritize
  • Provide monthly input for earned value management (EVMS) to track project performance.
  • Will provide inputs, where applicable, such as impacts to cost, schedule, technical content, staffing concerns, and risks
  • Perform other duties as required.
Here’s What You’ll Need:


Required Education/Experience/Skills:

This position has been posted at multiple levels. Depending on the candidate's experience, requirements, and business needs, we reserve the right to consider candidates at any level for which this position has been advertised.

  • BS degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school and ten (10) years of direct engineering experience (preferably with NASA projects)., or a MS degree from an accredited engineering school and eight (8) years of direct engineering experience, or Ph.D. and four (4) years of direct engineering experience.

Experience in:

  • Overall packaging approach
  • Support Critical System Design Reviews (PDR, CDR)
  • Lead forming
  • Lead control plan
  • Sub-System and Component test readiness review
  • Electro-mechanical experience is desired, such as operating motors, commutating pumps, and controllers
  • Desired to have someone with experience leading complex projects who can act as a "chief engineer" for our electrical systems to help us find gaps or blind spots in our electrical design

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements
