Job Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoots, installs, maintains, and repairs mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical/electronic equipment including but not limited to programmable controls, numerical controls, power supplies, drives, motors, gear boxes, bearings, gauges and test equipment.
  • Works from complex blue prints, wiring diagrams, shop and vendor manuals, layouts, and other specifications (written or verbal to determine materials and working procedures needed in the maintenance of plant machinery, equipment and structures).
  • Plans and performs work requiring a thorough knowledge of electrical/electronic and mechanical theories and principles, writing specifications, local and national electrical codes, properties of various materials, and principles of operation and application of electronic equipment.
  • Calibrates CEM (Continuous Monitoring Equipment), scrubber (exhaust cylinder) and ESP Dust Recycling Equip-ment. Keeps dust system running. Calls or notifies electrician and mechanics of malfunction.
  • Controls and cleans automatic batch chargers to maintain correct charging. Inspect for stem, loose hose clamps, worn bearings, frayed belts, ravel coming apart, guard coming off. Controls and adjusts settings on all furnace controls.
  • Monitors glass levels; using optimeter, checks furnace temperatures & timers in all furnaces, normally every 2 hours.
  • Checks level visually as well as checks operation of automatic level gauge.
  • Reverses fires and air valves whenever automatic system malfunctions or is inoperative.
  • Checks furnaces to determine faulty operating conditions, such as hot spots, dirty burners, clogged checkers, furnace leaks, holes; takes measures to temporarily correct these conditions, notifies supervision of conditions.
  • Gathers glass samples; performs sensitivity and density testing, checks for color, blisters.
  • Keeps log of B&F operation, noting statistics, problems and findings in log book or log sheets and computer.
  • Changes recording forms on instruments such as charts, glass levels.
  • Checks batch mixing and delivery, computer process control, monitors and responds to visual and audio alarms to correct malfunction.
  • Makes minor adjustments and repairs, as required, such as unplugging cullet gates and pipes.
  • Cleans up and clears jams from batch tower conveyor. Installs, starts up and shuts down equipment in accordance with company safety procedures and vendor manuals for machine activation and shutdown and in line with OSHA requirements.
  • We Welds, brazes, scrapes, solders, cuts, etc., various types of metals necessary for maintenance repairs and fabrication of new components and equipment.
  • Lubricates, greases, etc., plant machinery and equipment.
  • Advises operators and other team members of operation procedures and requirements for working safely with electrical / electronic and mechanical equipment and components.
  • Informs appropriate management of potential electrical / mechanical problems and inherent dangers involved.
  • Performs preventive maintenance functions as directed.
  • Assists and trains other maintenance and/or other technical level employees on correct operation of plant equipment.
  • Assists other department employees as time permits; attends emergency situations such as power failure, emergency glass leaks.
  • Clean work area and perform other duties as required.
  • Willingness to come to the plant periodically outside normal scheduled shifts to assist with plant breakdown emergencies
  • Performs all other duties as assigned


Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 2-3 years of proven experience in the electrical/electronics and/or mechanical fields are required, including the use of special instruments for diagnostic purposes, AC and DC power distribution, high and low voltage applications, servo systems, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s), pneumatic, hydraulic, electro-mechanical devices.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Willing to work rotating shifts and overtime, as required.
  • The ability to work in a team environment.
  • Must be highly safety conscious.
  • Day shift employees must be willing to work overtime as needed.
  • Shift employees must be willing to work 12 hour rotating shift and overtime, as required.
  • Able to work in a safe manner.
  • Able to work in a team environment.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills, ability to read electrical/electronic diagrams/drawings, and an understanding of computers and related equipment is required.
  • High degree of precision working with minimum tolerances required.
  • Ability to climb in overhead structures, to work beneath machines, in close quarters and hot areas performing analysis and repair work.
  • Ability to travel and/ or attend off-site training as necessary.
  • Ability to interpret quality specifications and make decisions regarding conforming product and communicate those decisions to appropriate personnel.
