Freedom Forever is currently hiring for a Journeyman Electrician (Service) for our South New Jersey Office located in Moorestown, NJ! Position Summary
The Journeyman Electrician (Service) will report to the Field Manager and is responsible for completing service calls as dispatched, successfully executing main panel upgrades, providing diagnostic, troubleshooting for solar panel systems and electrical, preventive, and corrective maintenance services to Freedom Forever's installed Residential systems. The Service Technician III is responsible for providing the technical expertise to safely plan and perform main panel upgrades for residential solar projects. This position will work independently performing electrical work related to solar installations.
Job Duties/ Responsibilities
- Safely plan and complete Main Panel Upgrades (MPU)
- Ensure that the work is performed in a professional and workmanlike manner to conform to existing national and local building codes
- Diagnose and troubleshoot system components to resolve electrical issues
- Ensure work performed is of good workmanship and compliant with current NEC and local codes
- Work with branch team and homeowners to fulfill any necessary system repairs to support main panel upgrades and electrical tie-ins.
- Interface with branch leadership to ensure compliance with electrician/labor ratios and continuing education requirements
- Follow OSHA, NEC, AHJ, and Utility requirements
- Document work by taking pictures and completing work orders
- Responsible for the preventative and corrective maintenance of Photovoltaic (PV) inverters, string boxes, and solar panels, and other components
- Assist in the commissioning of the solar array and monitoring systems during project installation when needed
- Ensure that PV systems are set up correctly
- Perform service maintenance and repairs as needed
- Install hardware, PV modules, inverters, and monitoring equipment
- Perform commissioning of inverters and inspection of solar panels
- Mechanical/structural mounting of racking, modules, and electrical equipment
- Respond to corrective maintenance cases on PV inverters, string boxes, and solar panels. This includes troubleshooting, testing, and repairing activities
- Electrical wiring of solar array/system (AC and DC)
- Perform voltage testing using appropriate PPE and procedures
- Prepare reports, if needed to comply with deliverables in O&M contracts
- Help in all areas of preventative and corrective maintenance as directed by the manager with minimal supervision
- Attend mandatory training sessions on new products, installation methodology, maintenance and safety
- Ensure tasks are performed according to organizational requirements for quality management and environmental, health and safety standards, policies and procedures
- Maintains adherence to Company policies, environmental health and safety policies, and good housekeeping practices. Identifies gaps in safety standards as well as safety risks in the environment and provides recommendations to higher-level technical staff and management
- Complete RMA’s and log project documentation
- May perform required to travel for extended periods at a time
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Must have an understanding of NEC (National Electrical Codes) that relate to PV installations
- 1+ years of experience with roof racking and solar installation preferred but not required.
- Minimum 3 years of electrical installation and repair experience
- Must have a minimum licensing requirement to legally perform the job descriptions in each market
- Must have working knowledge and experience replacing residential electrical services and distribution panels
- Ability to read and comprehend electrical and mechanical schematics, technical manuals, procedures, and regulations
- Ability to repair all types of Roofs as well as Ground Mounts; ability to add or remove panels on solar systems; able to identify/isolate roof leaks; able to read and understand electrical plans and field layouts
- Ability to understand or have experience in Electrical Panels including Sub Panels (MBD derate, conduit bending, relocating circuits, etc.)
- Ability to understand or have experience in Monitoring equipment (Cat5, Zigbee, Router, Range Extender, and ETC )
- Ability to understand or have experience with all AHJ guidelines within the region
- Ability to understand or have experience with all types of Solar Equipment (Enphase, Solaredge, Sunpower and ETC ), battery backup systems (Enphase, LG and ETC ), and Standalone Metering equipment (CT for production and consumption)
- Experience in Electrical troubleshooting (Power outage, shorts, faults, and ETC ), which includes the ability to troubleshoot an inverter that is reporting production loss
- Experience installing all types of grid-tier inverters and be able to work with various ground and roof mount racking systems
- Experience in PV Component performance and HALT testing
- Good motivation with attention to productivity, detail, and safety
- Must be willing and able to climb ladders, stairs, work on rooftops, and able to work on your feet for long periods of time
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as excellent customer service skills
- Ability to work well with others in a collaborative team environment
- Ability to work in extreme environments (example: hot sun, cold, rain, crawl spaces, etc.)
- Well skilled with power and hand tools as well as showing others how to safely use them
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment
- Must have a valid state driver's license and a clean driving record
