Responsibilities*

Duties:
Work with Educational Nurse Specialists, Educational Nurse Coordinators, staff nurses and management personnel to articulate, interpret and ensure that identified educational programs and processes are carried out in a consistent fashion and evaluated according to established outcomes.
Systematic assessment of learning needs of clinical and educational staff, analysis of data/ evidence, prioritized planning in accordance with strategic directives, curricular design congruent with current and projected benchmarks of excellence, implementation of instructional methodology consistent with broad organizational requirements and learner needs, and evaluation of outcomes in terms of contribution to organizational aims, vision and directives.
Provide leadership and direction for the implementation of a consistent competency based approach to nursing education and development including orientation, annual required education and curricula that supports lifelong learning and all aspects of practice including compliance with regulatory standards, evidence based practice, policies and procedures and professional accountability.
Design, implement and evaluate educational programming that facilitates the achievement of job expectations within the Professional Development Framework, supports professional leadership development within nursing and enhances approaches to management and preceptor/educator development.
Create and support a learning environment characterized by safe discourse, constructive feedback, first party communication, mentoring and team development within UMHS.
Incorporate pertinent nursing, patient care and/or educational research into professional development programs and materials.
Integrate knowledge of organizational mission, values, aims, vision and systems into educational development, implementation and evaluation processes.
Represent nursing education across the system in terms of liaison responsibilities and participation in relevant governance activities.
Assume leadership for project/program management congruent with departmental objectives.
Role model change agency that supports continued organizational growth.

Required Qualifications*

Current licensure to practice nursing in the State of Michigan or eligibility for such licensure.
Master's degree in nursing and/or education.
Current (minimum 2 years) Educational Nurse Coordinator experience.
Experience in educational program development and management.
Strong interpersonal skills, communication skills, and relationship building skills.
Design and implementation of computerized online/web- based education technology or programs.
Working knowledge and skills of electronic education.
Functional expertise with respect to program development and educational processes (i.e. curriculum development, instructional methodologies, evaluation strategies, etc).
Experience with patient education program development and the development of patient education materials.

Desired Qualifications*

Doctorate of Nursing Practice or PhD preferred.
Formal training and/or certification in nurse coaching and mentoring.
Strong understanding and knowledge of nursing standards of practice, and patient care practices.
Teaching experience in an academic medical setting
Recent (within last 2 years) experience with system wide nursing strategic initiatives.
Strong analytical skills, including the ability to run statistical programs and conduct qualitative analysis
Experience in educational program evaluation, analysis (qualitative and quantitative), and program improvement.
Ability to establish effective working relationships with education and nursing staff, ancillary departments or disciplines, medical staff and administrative leadership.
Ability to solve problems and function with limited supervision/ direction to meet assigned deadlines.
Ability to function as a positive change agent and provide direct mentoring, coaching and leadership.
Excellent writing skills.
Excellent customer service skills and a positive attitude.
Strong technology/computer skills, specifically Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
Nursing Professional Development Board Certification or ASTD/ISPI certification
Work Schedule

Appointment: 40 Hours per week
Shift/Hours/Days: Day Shift/ Monday- Friday
Location: Professional Development and Education Department

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Michigan Nurses Association and the U-M Professional Nurse Council union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
