EDUCATION TECHNOLOGY SPECIALISTDepartment: Legal (C3) (Will be working in parishes and schools)Location: Los Angeles Status: Exempt, Full Time POSITION SUMMARYThe Mobile Maker Experience piloted by the C3 Maker Initiative in 2019-2020 academic year and entitled Think Tank, was adapted to address educational adjustments to meet the COVID-19 requirements is being continued as a developing program to give archdiocesan elementary and students the opportunity to cultivate their creativity and explore experimental projects by reinforcing the disciplines of math, science, engineering, architecture, design, arts and crafts. The Maker Technology Specialist and the Maker Specialist will collaborate in design implementation, direct instruction of participants, support and assistance to teachers and students as they develop their learning and skills in a collaborative maker environment and in evaluating and molding the initiative for future growth. C3 is the branded name of the Catholic Communication Collaboration in and for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. The position will be available effective July 1, 2021. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSBecause all Archdiocesan employees represent the Roman Catholic Church, they are expected to conduct themselves according to the goals and missions of the Church in performing their work. The Maker Technology Specialist will: Thinker Tank Office- Collaborate with community member teachers in implementing Thinker Tank activities and resources to enhance students learning experience.
- Coordinate logistics for all school visits including, but not limited to scheduling visit arrival time(s), locating power, van readiness and technical infrastructure such as Internet connection, etc.
- Coordinate with community member teachers in preparation for activity(ies) that includes pre-lesson resources, instruction responsibility and background knowledge.
- Organize and maintain all Thinker Tank files and supply lists.
- Assure that the Thinker Tank room is organized and clean.
- Collaborate with the Maker Specialist in preparing instruction and teaching materials that can be integrated in cross-curricular lessons in the classroom and use those materials in on-site teaching and instructing in the Thinker Tank.
- Collaborate with the Maker Specialist in keeping content and classes focused on projects by establishing active participation and providing clear instruction for the Thinker Tank activities.
- Collaborate in developing and conveying safety protocol instructions for use of equipment and safe experiences with activities.
Location Visits- Convey and enforce safety protocols and ensure the proper use of all equipment by the students.
- Assure that all activity related items are fully charged and ready for use for each visit.
- Instruct and guide students and teachers on how to use equipment and materials during the activities.
- Teach prepared lessons during specified online and school visits as scheduled and needed.
- Perform related duties as required.
- Movements consistent with the operation and basic maintenance of a Class C licensed on-road vehicle.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation and ExperienceAny combination of education and experience likely to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, typically:- Active member of a Roman Catholic faith community.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Science, Education, or related field.
- Thorough understanding of current education technology trends.
- Minimum of two years’ experience teaching computer science, math, science, or art.
- Minimum of two years’ experience working with K-8 students preferred.
- Minimum of two years’ experience in a technology coordinator role preferred.
- Google Certified Educator certification preferred but not required.
- Extensive experience using various technology devices.
- Valid Class C California Driver’s License.
- Valid California Teaching Credential preferred but not required.
Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesKnowledge of:- The mission and organizational structure of the Catholic Church.
- The Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
- Knowledge of math, engineering, design, science concepts.
- Creative approach to problem solving and instruction.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, oral, and computer skills.
- Using video conferencing platforms such as Zoom, TEAMS and Google Meet for workshops, meetings, and webinars.
- Effective use of student learning platforms such as Seesaw, EdPuzzle, Flipgrid, Adobe Suite, Office 365, and Google Suite.
- Effective use of 3D printers, laser engravers, sewing machine and cutting machines and all related software.
- Creation of data collection mechanisms and data interpretation required.
- Simple record keeping of methods and procedures.
- Photography and videography and editing experience preferred.
Skills in:- Classroom management and formal and informal instruction.
- Working in various school environments and locations with staff, educators, and students in numerous school settings.

- Drive and oversee maintenance of the Thinker Tank van.
- Set-up the Thinker Tank Experience for schools.
- Prepare and demonstrate Thinker Tank activities, experiments, and projects.
- Maintain Thinker Tank equipment and supplies.
- Stock, order and assist in maintenance of all equipment and resources needed for activities.
- Pack-up the Thinker Tank upon completion of school visit.
- Keep detailed records and reports from each Thinker Tank visit (equipment usage, accidents, time spent on projects, etc.)
- Commit strongly to educating students in a Thinker Tank.
- Creatively and enthusiastically approach instruction and presentations.
- Work collaboratively with the C3 team.
Physical & Environmental Requirements- Occasionally lift items up to 50 pounds.
- Sit or stand for sustained periods of time daily.
- Perform tasks requiring intermittent bending, stooping, and walking.
- Movements consistent with the use of keyboard and office equipment.
