Overview: The Department of Aviation and Technical Education at Utah State University Eastern (Price) offers a full-time position as an Education Specialist II in support of the Rural Technology Pathway Strategic Workforce Initiative (SWI). As part of USU’s mission to make its academic programs accessible throughout the state, the position will be physically located at the USU Eastern (Price), Utah and support the surrounding areas. The estimated start date is September 1, 2021.
Under the director of the Associate Department Chair for Aviation and Technical Education (AVTE), the Education Specialist II will plan and implement the FutureINdesign (FIND) Young Adult (YA) Rural Technology Pathway program. The position works with internal and external entities within USU Eastern’s service area to align young adult training with high priority needs in response to business and industry partners. The position prioritizes and delivers non-formal instruction in working as part of the high school to post-secondary rural technology pathways.Responsibilities:

• Recruitment of young adults from local secondary schools.
• Ensure all students graduate from the Future-In-Design (FIND) Rural Technology Pathway program with employment ready skills.
• Develop and implement an annual master calendar.
• Establish technology aligned learning goals, implement an approved curriculum map for the implementation of instruction, and develop lesson plans.
• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the FIND Rural Technology Pathway program.
• Create safe space for FIND students to take positive risks, embrace failure, and develop ways to discuss and honor cultural and human relations.
• Empower youth to become leaders in the FIND Rural Technology Pathway program and ambassadors for social change.
• Work with FIND and USU Eastern instructors to develop an environment centered on questioning, critical thinking, and problem-solving within the STEM discipline.
• Implement and expose students to digital divide issues within their local and global ecosystem.
• Monitor the teaching philosophy and pedagogical practices used by FIND Rural Technology Pathway team.
• Implement Professional Development events and experiences for FIND students.
• Facilitate strong relationships with high school administrations, teachers, and staff to create a meaningful awareness of the FIND program.
• Assist in the hiring process of employees to expand programming (i.e. coordinators, design instructors, professional development experts, and coding/cyber security consultants).
• Actively seek industry partnerships and participant internship opportunities by developing and managing summer internship program.
• Promote FIND to be known within Carbon County for services and have successful graduates.

Qualifications:Minimum Qualification:

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field plus two years of experience or an equivalent combination of education plus experience is required.
