JOB SUMMARY: Arrange for the efficient and orderly admission and discharge of outpatient appointments, testing and procedures. Schedules provider appointment and maintains EMR system. Ensures that the patient’s information is collected, entered into computer system accurately, and that all patients are aware of clinic & hospital policies and procedures. Answers phones and provides answers to basic questions as needed. Processes incoming and outgoing referrals, faxes, and correspondence. Collects co-pays and payment receipts and ensures they are processed accordingly. Preauthorizes and schedules procedures with insurance and outside facilities. 2. Responsible for obtaining signature on Consent Forms and ABNs. 3. Schedules provider appointments and maintains EMR system records. 4. Obtains preauthorization from insurance companies and schedules procedures with outside facilities. 5. Processes all incoming referrals, faxes and record requests and ensures documents are scan into EMR records. 6. Communicates appropriately and clearly to the manager, medical assistants, coworkers and providers. 7. Receive patient payments on admission and discharge. Maintains department records, reports, and files as required. 8. Responsible, when previous arrangements have been made or a co-payment is required, to collect such payments and record payment. 9. Responsible for knowing hospital policies and being familiar with hospital services that are available. 11. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity; ensures confidentiality of patients’ records. 12. Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments. 13. Participates in the educational program, completes annual educational requirements, and attends in-service meetings as required. 14. Attends all other meetings as required. 15. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times. 16. Accepts and completes other duties as assigned or requested. 17. Must maintain accurate time clock punches, punch in and out according to hospital policy. 18. Answers incoming calls to the facility in a professional, timely manner. 19. Must maintain a professional attitude. 20. Must wear appropriate clothing acceding to dress code. 21. Responsible admitting walk in patients according to EMTALA guidelines. 22. Responsible when previous arrangements have been made or a co-payment is required to collect such payment and record the payment if unable to collect what is noted to contact supervisor. 23. The employee is required to comply with all PCI standards and other company policies and procedures for payment card acceptance and security. QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Certification: High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Experience: One to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Equipment/Technology: Ability to use hospital information system, and operate basic computer functions and software. Language/Communication: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to speak effectively, before groups of customers and or employees of the organization. Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate ratios and percentages and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Interpersonal: Ability to work well with others.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Medical Receptionist is:
1. Responsible for pre-registering patients for scheduled appointments and outpatient procedures, obtaining personal information or verifying information already on file, including emergency numbers and insurance information.
