This recruitment will be used to fill future full-time, part-time, and temporary Early Childhood Associate Teacher positions at Oregon State University-Cascades. These positions will be located in Bend, OR.

The Early Childhood Associate Teacher in the OSU-Cascades Childcare and Early Learning Center (ELC) provides a positive learning environment and curriculum that support children’s social, emotional, physical, language and cognitive development. This position will serve in one of the three classrooms; infant, toddler or preschool. The ELC Teacher reports to the ELC Director.

OSU-Cascades Childcare and Early Learning Center is located on the OSU-Cascades campus in Bend, Oregon. The facility serves OSU-Cascades, COCC and the Central Oregon community.

Our program has expanded from a pop-up center that was opened to meet the immediate need during the pandemic, to a full-day childcare center with up to 30 children. Future plans include development of an early learning center with a 100-child capacity by the fall of 2022.Position Duties 60% Classroom Childcare and Early Learning

• Maintain a safe, healthy, culturally appropriate, emotionally secure learning environment. Assume responsibility for the classroom.
• Develop procedures that support students’ needs and the overall goals of the ELC.
• Interacts with children and family members to nurture positive relationships and provide support in professional manner.
• Contribute to ELC outreach events including parent education and early childhood community activities.

• Monitor and assist with meals, nap time, clean-up and hygienic care (toileting, handwashing, etc.) • Ensure safe care of all children at all times through continual supervision.

20% Curriculum Design and Development

• Facilitate learning experiences in a constructive environment using a project-based educational approach that models’ best practices.
• Create a consistent schedule that includes one-on-one time, small and large group experiences, social and emotional learning, music and movement, large and small motor activities, skill development, indoor and outdoor activities, and effective transitions between activities.
• Develop, implement, and share quality lesson plans designed to meet curricular goals and the developmental needs of each child.
• Material selection and procurement needed to support designed curriculum.
• Train, monitor and organize assistant teachers, student teachers, and volunteers to deliver curriculum.

15% Documentation and Lead Work

• Assist in the development of program policies and procedures.
• Document observations in the classroom, maintain assessment records for each child.
• Maintains confidentiality of highly sensitive information.
• Maintains classroom attendance records.
• Submit required reports and communications.

5% Other

• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

An Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development from a recognized program; OR a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential; OR a minimum of twenty semester hours (thirty quarter hours) of college courses in Early Childhood Education or Child Development; AND one year of experience in a certified day care center or comparable group care program; OR two years of experience, including at least one year as a teacher, in a certified day care center or comparable group child care program.

Additional Required QualificationsOCC approved health and safety training (within 30 days of hire date)

OCC approved safe sleep training (for infant classroom) (within 30 days of hire date)

Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a teaching team and follow directions.

A demonstrable ability to design and implement a culturally appropriate learning environment.

A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.

Demonstrated ability to supervise a group of children and their activities by standing, walking, reaching, sitting (on floor, small chairs, &/or outdoors), stooping and lifting up to 40 pounds.

Have, or obtain within 90 days of hiring, current infant/child CPR & Basic First Aid; Blood Borne Pathogen training, and Food Handler’s permit.
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.Preferred (Special) QualificationsA Bachelors Degree or higher in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Elementary Education, Early Childhood Special Education, or similar degree

Demonstrated understanding of Oregon licensing requirements and rules regulating childcare centers.

Teaching experience in early childhood settings.

Knowledge of community resources in support of families, i.e. health, nutrition, educational, medical, etc.

Training and experience with multicultural populations.

Bi-lingual preferred.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Organizational skills including a demonstrated ability to do detailed work, prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).

Demonstration of self-initiative.

Demonstrated ability to design and or implement trauma informed care.Working Conditions / Work ScheduleMonday through Friday approximately 8AM-5PM. Occasional evening work may be required.This position is deemed essential and the incumbent may be expected to report to work during inclement weather, emergency and other University work curtailments or closures.
