The Facilities, Planning, Construction, and Management (FPCM) and the Transportation & Logistics department is seeking a full time driver to join our waste management team. This department is responsible for waste pickup/disposal and a variety of minor moves within The George Washington University. This position will report directly to the Transportation & Logistics Supervisor and work alongside a team of drivers, and driver’s helpers. Qualified candidates will have a valid driver’s license plus 1 year of experience as a driver, including three months of experience driving large vans, trucks and/or garbage trucks. Sufficient physical strength to lift heavy loads and the ability to speak, read and write English is necessary. This position will serve as a trash truck driver and may be required to assist with move requests. As a trash truck driver, you will be required to safely operate a trash truck and perform scheduled pick ups throughout campus. This position requires lifting and climbing in and out of the truck; the ability to read work request sheets and service each customer identified on the work ticket or assigned by the supervisor. This position requires the operation of a rear-load truck, ancillary equipment and hydraulic system to collect and load solid waste, yard waste and recyclables. Transports and dumps waste at a regulated transfer station or approved landfill. Operates the truck in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with all local, state, and federal DOT regulations, observing all traffic laws and safety regulations. Drivers safely maneuver vehicles and navigate high traffic and congested roadways, driveways, alleyways, and lots. Completely dumps all receptacles and leaves the customer’s location clean and free of debris. Follows route assignments as directed and completes end of day documentation and check out process. Performs daily pre-trip inspections, post-trip inspections, and reports mechanical issues or concerns to the Fleet Coordinator. All drivers logs should be maintained and load weight tickets submitted to the Supervisor. The truck should be cleaned daily to ensure the vehicle meets company expectations to include inside the cab, and ensuring that no trash remains in the truck body.
This position may cover a variety of duties on a daily basis, which includes assisting in a variety of minor moves within the administrative and academic buildings; responsible for snow removal during inclement weather, and maintaining all loading docks throughout the campus.
