This is entry-level work in the DPS-Criminal Records Technician series. Work involves maintaining and entering driver's criminal information into a database; compiling and classifying information pertaining to violators; overseeing the receipt, storage, and distribution of department records; reviewing criminal records, data, and court related documents; and processing other related information concerning drivers of this state and other states that certifies completeness and conformity of established department policies and state laws. Work is performed under the supervision of an administrative superior. Examples of work performed in this classification include, but are not limited to, the following: Reviews, verifies, and records various documents for processing. These minimum qualifications have been agreed upon by Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in this job class and are based upon a job analysis and the essential functions. However, if a candidate believes he/she is qualified for the job although he/she does not have the minimum qualifications set forth below, he/she may request special consideration through substitution of related education and experience, demonstrating the ability to perform the essential functions of the position. EXPERIENCE/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Education: Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring agency. The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:
Enters criminal information into law enforcement database.
Gathers routine, factual information regarding customers, and enters data into computer to begin the process of determining initial or on-going eligibility.
Provides verified, routine, and factual information to persons within or outside the agency by telephone, personal contact, and/or by other correspondence.
Monitors and processes paperwork for the purpose of data entry.
Correctly transposes the history of all drivers ordered by the court.
Responds to questions and calls of citizens utilizing various computer-associated screens and programs for the purpose of customer satisfaction.
Requests and receives information of a confidential nature.
Performs detailed research of driver's records and documents relating to individual drivers for determining eligibility of credentials applied for by the driver.
Reviews all case reports and related information regarding violators.
Maintains arrest dockets and files regarding complaints, photographs, and fingerprints.
Works closely with the Mississippi Sex Offender (MSO) attorneys in locating court documents, police reports, and other documents relating to the case.
Minimum Qualifications:
A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university;
OR
Education:
An Associate e's Degree from an accredited college or university;
AND
Experience:
Two (2) years of experience in work related to the described duties;
OR
Education:
Graduation from a standard four-year high school or equivalent (GED or High School Equivalency Diploma);
AND
Experience:
Four (4) years of experience in work related to the described duties.
Substitution Statement:
Above graduation from a standard four-year high school or equivalent (GED or High School Equivalency Diploma), related education and related experience may be substituted on an equal basis.
Reinstates suspended/revoked licenses.
Maintains agency filing system.
Handles data and documents related to criminal case files.
Enters data into computer for agency.
Works closely with the Mississippi Sex Offender (MSO) attorneys.
Performs related or similar duties as required or assigned.
