The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith based organization, has a job opening for a Divisional Creatives Art Director for the Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi Divisional Headquarters office, located in Jackson, Mississippi.
JobSummary: Travels throughout the division to assist local corps in developing Creative Arts programs; plans, administers, and conducts various Creative Arts seminars, institutes, conferences, etc.; develops, implements and leads virtual educational, practice and information sessions on a regular basis; creates and publishes a variety of hard copy and electronic publications for distribution to various levels of leadership and program participants; maintains various social media platforms; establishes and maintains divisional arts groups.; trains leaders to take over groups established; teaches drama, mime, dance, puppetry classes; performs vocally and/or instrumentally in various music programs; maintains the divisional library of Creative Arts resources and materials; performs general office duties including preparing and distributing correspondence; maintains mailing list of divisional Creative Arts leaders and the divisional arts groups.
As an active uniformed Salvationist in good standing, the Divisional Creative Arts Director promotes the development, improvement, and advancement of creative arts in the Salvation Army by instruction and example.Encourages and guides program participants’ involvement in worship and evangelistic outreach in the Division. The Divisional Creative Arts Director regularly attends, is an active soldier in a local corps, and is actively involved in the local music and arts programs to the extent that divisional duties allow. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of The Salvation Army’s mission, philosophy, culture, and protocols. Knowledge of the principles and practices of professional education. Skills in performing music, drama and/or dance. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively as an educator. Ability to organize and maintain an artistic library. Knowledge of the principles and practices of theatrical performances. Knowledge of Salvation Army Adult and Youth ministries. Knowledge of the principles and practices of music education and Salvation Army music. Skill in teaching theatrical, musical, and vocal techniques. Skill in conducting ensembles involving all age groups in both large and small groups. Ability to read and hear music note. Ability to prepare effective printed materials for educational and promotional purposes. Ability to prepare effective audio/visual materials for promotional and educational purposes. Ability to manage Web content on various social media platforms for the ALM Division. Ability to effectively create, coordinate and lead virtual sessions on a variety of topics to various levels of leadership and program participants.
Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree or diploma from an accredited college or university in Drama, Dance, Music or a related field, and two years’ experience developing, conducting, and participating in Creative Arts programs preferably with The Salvation Army, or anyy equivalent combination of training and experience, that provides the all the required knowledge, skills, and abilities listed in the job description.
Licenses and Certifications:Valid State Driver’s License. Approved Driver under The Salvation Army Driver Qualification Program.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to travel to various destinations throughout the Division. Ability to be approved as an eligible driver under The Salvation Army Driver Qualification Program. Ability to perform in front of a large audience. Ability to stand for extended periods of time while leading/directing dramatic/theatrical performances. Work requires the ability to lift and carry and/or push/pull moderately heavy (25-50 lb.) materials, supplies, and equipment. Moderate mobility. Duties are usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing, and walking.
