We operate USO centers at or near military installations across the United States and throughout the world, including in combat zones, and even un-staffed USO service sites in places too dangerous for anyone but combat troops to occupy.

The Director, Prospect Management & Field Development Operations will be responsible for developing strategies and vision for the organization wide Prospect Management and Regional Development Operations. This highly collaborative individual will proactively recommend and implement policies and processes with an emphasis on efficiency, consistency, and best practices for research, information management, regional gift administration, and donor relations.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (*Essential Duties)

Prospect Management

  • Oversee Prospect Management across the USO. Partner with HQ and Regional VP(s) of Development to develop, implement and maintain a Moves Management process that supports the work of frontline fundraisers to ensure that thoughtful and realistic plans are in place for all prospects and donors in portfolios.
  • Implement and manage a transparent prospect assignment process across USO that demonstrates the criteria by which the prospects will be assigned, resolve conflicts and ensure the movement of prospects to gift officer portfolios is efficient.
  • Oversee & manage major gift prospect/donor data, as maintained by relationship managers (including information collection, maintenance, storage, and output), providing relationship managers tools and resources to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward prospects/donors.
  • Develops reporting which allows for the analysis and assessment of quality of donor & prospect portfolios and overall health of USO’s donor pipelines.
  • Design and provide training, tools and resources required by Relationship Managers and management team to drive best-in-class results in portfolio management across donor pyramid.

Field Development Operations & Donor Relations

  • Lead, monitor and oversee donor services and regional gift transactions. Identify opportunities for developing and improving new and/or existing operating procedures. Implement process improvements and measure results and effectiveness.
  • Oversee the donor services call center. Set and communicate expectations and measure performance against goals and results. Resolve escalated issues.
  • Oversee the management and production of tax receipts for all donors the USO.
  • Partner with Gifts Management Team and Finance to reconcile regional revenue on a monthly basis.
  • Serve as the liaison for the Finance Department on all regional transactions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Specifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Marketing or related field. Master’s Degree preferred.
  • 10+ years progressively responsible work experience in in a fundraising or development leadership role, including 5+ years in a supervisory capacity. Relevant experience in a non-profit, military, multicultural and/or global organization preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead high-performing teams. Ability to achieve desired results while working collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills. Ability to interact with USO Leadership, the general public and military audiences at a variety of levels with integrity and professionalism.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment related to controversial and/or culturally sensitive subjects. Ability to handle confidential information with tact and poise.
  • Working knowledge of basic business and accounting functions including project management and budgeting.
  • Demonstrated initiative/self-motivation, with the ability to quickly and easily adapt to changing organizational needs.
  • Proficiency using computers and electronics equipment. Working knowledge of various software, applications, and programs including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite and Raiser’s Edge.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain proper credentials necessary to access USO Center locations and facilities including but not limited to security, credit and/or background screening, SOFA status, valid driver’s license.
  • Must be a strong advocate of the USO’s mission.
