McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) seeks applicants for a tenured position at the rank of professor to serve as Director of The John P. McGovern, M.D. Center for Humanities and Ethics (McGovern Center). Compensation is based on qualifications and experience. The McGovern Center was established in 2004 to examine moral, spiritual, and cultural aspects of medicine and the health sciences. Housed in McGovern Medical School, the McGovern Center collaborates with all six health professional schools of UTHealth, delivering quality ethics and humanities education, programming, and scholarship. Position Key Accountabilities: The successful candidate will be an accomplished scholar in medical humanities. This person will direct the teaching and scholarship in the McGovern Center, as well as service initiatives to UTHealth. The Director will be highly organized and an effective communicator. Additionally, the Director will be responsible for managing the budget of the McGovern Center, and she or he will be charged with looking for ongoing funding opportunities. While the specific area of expertise is open, the McGovern Center is seeking a candidate with demonstrated leadership abilities, who offers a broad humanistic perspective on medicine and health care, and who will bring a creative vision of the future of humanities and ethics in the McGovern Center. The candidate is expected to provide vision and leadership for diversity and inclusion initiatives for the McGovern Center.
