Job Description
This position can be located out of our corporate headquarters in Albuquerque, our Houston or Irving, Texas locations. Relocation assistance provided for exceptional candidates.
Overview of the Role:

As Director of Team Development, you will be responsible for building a world-class learning environment that supports The Summit Way and drives a superior customer experience. Our ability to train, grow, and promote people is foundational to us being the best place to work, and do business, in our industry.
Deliverables:
- Design and lead a company-wide talent development strategy to support the requirements of our customers and the needs of our business
- Advance a culture of continuous learning
- Deliver highly effective training and development programs across every level of the organization, always with the focus of “How is this good for our customers?”
- Align with senior leadership to drive business results
- Provide engaging opportunities for associates to pursue development throughout their career, always improving in their current role while preparing for the future
- Measure the effectiveness of organizational development initiatives and training programs and provide meaningful metrics to Summit’s senior leadership
- Create an introduction to The Summit Way for new associates that instills vision, engrains values, communicates culture, and aligns expectations
- Create a robust pipeline that can support the company’s growth and expansion Ensure our team is highly proficient on our tools, systems, and processes
- Build a leadership development program that prepares emerging and proven associates across the organization to step into greater levels of leadership
- Develop training for Summit’s line managers that establishes consistency across the organization, sets clear expectations, and provides coaching/feedback
- Deliver programs to improve financial acumen in Summit’s associates at all levels
- Work with relevant leaders to select appropriate external programs to fill specific, identified needs in Summit’s learning curriculum
- Design processes to translate SME knowledge into effective training
- Promote the value of associate training and development internally and communicate why training and development are so closely tied to the customer experience
Qualifications

A successful candidate derives great satisfaction and is personally vested in helping people develop job skills and succeed in their careers. You have a strong background in adult learning and have been part of building a successful talent program before. It likely really bothers you when you see people working for companies that don’t provide the tools and the training to do their job well. You understand that people are the foundation of a successful company because they are the ones who determine the customers’ experience.
Other stuff we like:
- 7+ years of experience as a training or organizational development professional
- Proven success in a world-class training organization in a sales driven environment
- Experience with a geographically dispersed regional or national b2b distributor
- Bachelor’s degree in adult learning, organizational development, or related field. Master’s degree is even better.
- Professional designation with the American Society for Training & Development (ASTD) or Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP)
- Ability to discover and articulate complex behavioral drivers within organizations and recommend strategies to address misalignment in communication, compensation, role description, performance metrics, and other forms of reinforcement
- A proven ability to not just create training that meets specific needs but build a learning organization that produces high-performing associates
- Demonstrated ability to apply adult education theories in the development of effective training resources and tools
- Honest and persuasive communication and people skills
- Team player, creative thinker with good follow-up skills and attention to detail
- Strong business acumen
- Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects and workstreams with competing priorities
- Strong and proven team building skills
- A strong desire to roll up your sleeves and dig in
