Job Description
The Magnet Program Director’s primary responsibility is to ensure that Tufts Medical Center and Tufts Children's Hospital meet the qualification for the standards of nursing excellence in alignment with the Magnet Recognition Program. The Director reports to the Associate Chief Nursing Officer of the Center of Excellence and serves as the organization’s Magnet Program expert and coordinator for application, interim reporting, documentation, and appraisal process. In collaboration with the CNO, nursing leadership and the hospital, the director assists with the strategic plans, development, implementation and evaluation for improved patient satisfaction, improved nursing satisfaction, and improved nurse sensitive quality outcomes indicative of a Magnet and service excellence driven culture.

Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Nursing is preferred either at time of hire/transfer, or must be enrolled in a program within one year of hire/transfer date and completed within three years of enrollment.
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive leadership experience required with relevant clinical experience preferred.
- Experience in strategic planning or a related discipline is preferred.
- Strong analytical and interpersonal skills and knowledge of trends in nursing.
- Have experience with project management, program evaluation activities, coaching, leading teams, and implementing programs.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Has a proven track record of aligning teams around a common goal and achieving outcomes.
- Proficient in the use of software programs.
- Experience in human relations, clinical skills, ethical decision-making, problem analysis, system analysis, long and short term strategic planning, proactive professional behavior, risk taking and resiliency.
- Analytical ability necessary to evaluate staff, address and improve clinical issues and devise solutions to complex problems.
- Superior interpersonal and communication skills sufficient to effectively create relationships
Responsibilities:
- Together with Nursing Leadership, achieves and sustains a culture of nursing excellence.
- Directs, supports, coaches and guides nursing in the Magnet Recognition Program to ensure continued evidence based and best practices throughout Medical Center.
- Works with senior leadership to facilitate the integration of Magnet recommendations into nursing practice, lead the coordination of the ANCC Magnet application, and re-designation process
- Develops and maintains productive working relationships internally and externally by building teams and relationships using positive communication.
- Extends trust by acknowledging the contributions of others by confronting reality based situations and clarifying expectations.
- Conveys information and ideas to individuals or groups in a manner that engages the audience and that helps them understand and retain the message using a variety of media.
- Creates an environment which recognizes and values differences in staff, physicians, patients, and communities.
- Serves as a Magnet advisor to the nursing leadership team and nursing staff and acts as a liaison to the ANCC Magnet Office.
- Leads nursing division toward Magnet status designation.
- Utilizes American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Magnet Standards to perform gap analysis and designs systems or processes that meet ANCC standards.
- Serves as the NDNQI Site Coordinator.
- Establishes a culture of caring by promoting decisions that are patient centered and within the framework of the organization's Nursing Professional Practice Model.
- Promotes interprofessional partnerships and consultations of hospital staff and health care team through participation in committees and related activities.
- Demonstrates sound fiscal responsibility in the development and management of the department budget.
- Collaborates with medical staff to monitor patient outcomes and to set clinical quality improvement priorities.
- Monitors dashboard indicators of units/departments to meet organizational goals and develops action plans to address specific concerns and improve quality.
- Utilizes research and evidence-based practice to support improvement in clinical care.
- Shares learning from improvements with other units and/or supports the dissemination of improvements across the Medical Center.
- Analyzes nurse and patient satisfaction outcome data and develops action plan to address as needed.
- Supports and encourages involvement of staff nurses in within Professional Governance, Magnet activities, and hospital committees
- Provides service-based education and clinical expertise for staff including orientation and training, consultation on practice issues and general coordination of clinical activities.
- Sets high standards of performance for self and others by imposing standards of excellence and development of inquiry skills that are innovative, optimistic, and supportive of professional growth.
- Supports and endorses specialty certification throughout the organization.
- Develops a best practice climate for the growth and development of students as well as new nurses.
- Actively recruits nursing students through the establishment of exceptional clinical experiences.
- Supports shared governance through a unit-based professional practice council and utilization of staff feedback to make changes to improve care, nursing practice, and /or the work.
- Completes assigned employee evaluations, selection and hiring of staff, and performance management, including recommendations for corrective action.
- Orchestrates complex change and acknowledges the psychological transition on self and others. Involves stakeholders and experts in planning, designing, and redesigning change.
- Uses appropriate interpersonal styles and techniques to gain acceptance of ideas or plans. Modifies self-behavior to accommodate tasks, situations and individual involved.
- Supports staff during times of difficult transitions.
- Demonstrates ability to influence the external environment through participation in professional and advocacy organizations.
