Job SummaryThe University of Colorado Law School encourages applications for a Director of Marketing and Communications to strategically develop and manage an internal and external communications plan that grows awareness for the Law School's key initiatives. With guidance from the Dean and senior leadership, the Director will lead the planning and implementation of goal-based communication campaigns that support the following: elevate Colorado Law’s national profile, support events and initiatives, introduce the law school to prospective students and connect our alumni and friends to our community and each other.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will BeStrategic Communications and Marketing

  • Coordinate and implement marketing and communications strategies, including the Law School's Advancement, Alumni Relations and Admissions activities to improve the outreach portfolio, reputation and standing both externally and internally.
  • In collaboration with the Dean, develop an annual long-range communications plan.
  • Direct all storytelling efforts for the school across all communication channels. Drive implementation of communications plans; direct the creative development and production of content (print, digital and video).
  • Provide branding and communications support for internal Law School entities, including centers, library, student organizations and faculty events.
  • Write and edit executive communications for the Dean and senior leadership, including op-eds, talking points, letters and speeches.
  • Evaluate communication opportunities to determine which announcements, information, and stories to share via campus communication channels to build awareness for programs.
  • Identify measurable goals and metrics that advance the mission of the unit. Conduct focus groups and market research with students and alumni.
Publications and Collateral
  • Plan, write, edit and craft the production of electronic and print publications including the Amicus alumni magazine, admissions viewbook, faculty scholarship report, brochures, posters and postcards. Conceptualize, develop, write and delegate stories and lead all aspects of photography and design.
  • Coordinate with Strategic Relations and external vendors on design projects.
  • Manage photo database and coordinate photo shoots.
Digital Communications
  • Develop, implement and distribute Colorado Law Points alumni monthly email newsletter. Collaborate with departments to build and manage CRM-based email campaigns to alumni, leaders and donors.
  • Collaborate with the law school IT department to: optimize website content, assess needs and make recommendations for website, email and CRM technology, develop email strategy across Admissions, Alumni Relations, Events and Community Learning Programs and develop video strategy and manage all social media channels.
Media Relations and Outreach
  • Collaborate closely with external parties including media outlets, government actors and other organizations.
  • Collaborate with CU Strategic Relations on media pitches, press releases and event advisories. Maintain relationships with media, reporters and trade publications.
  • Support major events by planning publicity through news releases and media advisories, graphic design and external outreach.
Supervision
  • Supervise and provide mentorship to the Marketing and Communications Professional. Evaluate performance, set goals and provide cultural leadership.

  • Bachelor’s degree and five years of relevant experience in journalism, marketing, public relations or a related field including experience in marketing communications and/or the design of publications. An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.

What We Would Like You To Have
  • Experience with website content management, content editing systems and email marketing systems.
  • Experience utilizing graphic design programs, including the Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Experience utilizing targeted email marketing programs.
  • Experience with CRM software, including Salesforce.
  • Experience with Google Analytics.
  • Experience with social media strategy.
  • Photography and video experience.
  • Experience in university administration and publication is a plus.
  • Master’s degree in marketing, business, communications, public affairs, journalism or related field.
