Director of Logistics

Summary: The Director of Logistics is responsible for the management of US based finished goods distribution facilities in a manufacturing organization/environment. This position is responsible for the shipping and importing of international containers as well as all domestic transportation and freight activities. A keen focus on customer service is vital for the success of the department. The position is accountable for and directs the department work processes that manage and control finished goods inventory to agreed-upon warehouse operating standards, as well as sustaining a clear and effective continuous improvement program. This is a hands-on working role.
Essential Functions:
- Oversees the implementation of goods-to-person, ecommerce, case-picking, and reserve storage solutions that are optimized to support our distribution channels.
- Ensures that the movement and/or creation of new distribution facilities is accomplished without impacting customers
- Evaluates capacity and adjusts as needed, contracts for outside warehousing for overflow as required
- Conducts regular walk-throughs in the warehouse to monitor operations and interacts with the employees
- Directs domestic and coordinates international third-party logistics (3PL).
- Directs and oversees contract negotiation with carriers and works with transportation companies as required to meet customer requirements while controlling freight costs.
- Responsible for the movement of finished goods freight to customers or to other Cambro facilities, whether Manufacturing or Distribution. Oversees traffic operations to ensure scheduled on time, quality, and delivery to meet customer schedules.
- Maintains and improves state-of-the-art logistics distribution facility design and operation, including automated warehouse systems and technologies.
- Must be knowledgeable in “big box” warehouse environment, able to implement the best-fit transportation for finished goods domestically and internationally.
- Collaborates and coordinates Logistics activities with other activities within company, production, production planning, customer service.
- Manages within agreed-upon budgets and key performance indicators.
- Communicates and models the core values of the organization to create a sense of teamwork among employees.
- Manages and motivates teams to produce error-free shipments to the customer on a timely basis.
- Ensures continuous development of all team members; manages projects/tasks and team members effectively.
- Creates and maintains policies and procedures to effectively run the logistics operation.
- Ensures the overall safe, productive operation of Cambro’s distribution centers, managing 24/7 warehouse operation.
- Delivers expected performance of Management Operation System of receiving/put away, picking/shipping, pick zone replenishment, UPS/samples, and shipping office.
- Manages distribution centers to "good warehouse practices" in terms of housekeeping, quality, safety, production, physical condition of distribution centers, and maintenance of equipment therein, stressing location accuracy and tracking performance; establishes and maintains inventory accuracy.
- Travels to all domestic Cambro facilities. Occasional international travel may be required.
- Able and willing to work flexible schedules according to the needs of the business.
- Maintains reliable and consistent attendance, including being punctual, and dependable in order to meet the needs of the department and the organization.
- Executes each essential duty satisfactorily in order to perform job successfully.
- Follows all safety procedures required in work area, wears PPE as needed, attends all safety meetings, and reports safety issues regarding equipment or unsafe/hazardous conditions.
- Performs effectively as a team member, able to work well with others, open to receive and give feedback, and treats everyone with respect.
- Takes ownership of own work and behavior, accepts accountability for own actions, encourages solutions, and communicates status of work/projects.

- Constant, repetitive use of hands.

Bachelor’s degree in a related field, and/or equivalent years of related work experience
- 15+ years of experience in transportation and logistics for a manufacturing organization
- 10+ years of management experience in logistics or manufacturing
- Previous experience in managing multiple distribution centers or plant operations
- Strong leaderships skills with the ability to influence others to implement and manage change and continuous process improvement
- Inclusive leadership style: ability to lead with a high degree of emotional intelligence and ethics in a dynamic environment
- Working knowledge of MS Office applications: Excel, Word, PowerPoint
- Experience in strategic planning and execution. Knowledge of contracting, negotiating, and change management
- Experience with implementation of information technology integrations in a large division/company and between different systems and platforms
- Strong Dotcom knowledge and proven ability to manage complex manufacturing and logistics network
- Proven ability to run complex projects and integrate systems
- Experience with the use of automation in a distribution environment
- Prior hands-on management of the setup and movement of goods to a new distribution facility
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams to produce deliverables
- Strong understanding of the manufacturing/distribution industry and technology trends
- Must be action-oriented, organized, and customer-focused
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings
